Craig Zackey was in in fine form at Turffontein Standside in the twilight meeting and scored a four-timer, including winning the feature, the Listed Betway Summer Pudding Handicap over 1600m, on the Lucky Houdalakis-trained Lady Fallon.
Zackey sat on the rail three back after jumping from a good draw of two on Lady Fallon. He produced the Blue Sky Thoroughbreds-bred Act Of War four-year-old filly early in the straight down the inside and this proved the winning move, especially as the hot favourite Andi’s Girl was initially switched inward before having to check slightly to switch out for a run.
Zackey was pressurised by Soldier’s Eye who ran on well down the inside rail while Andi’s Girl continued to move up on the outside but was ultimately sent for home too late.
Lady Fallon and Soldier’s Eye went to the line as one with Andi’s Girl arriving on the scene late.
Lady Fallion got the verdict by a short-head with Andi’s Girl beaten only 0,75 lengths.
The runner up Soldier’s Eye was a touch unlucky as she experienced a traffic problem when initially trying to make her run and then had to be switched to the inside rail.
Lady Fallon is owned by Dave Shawe.
Houdalakis and Zackey combined to win the seventh race too with Hawkbill (Elusive Fort), who was produced out of sight on the outside rail.
Zackey is suddenly just three off the lead of Gavin Lerena in the national jockeys championship.
He has now had 66 wins this season and has done it at a strike rate of 15.98%.
Houdalakis is on 23 wins for the season at a fine strike rate of 25.27%.
