World Pool Gold Cup Day brings the KwaZulu-Natal Champions Season to a spectacular close
The final furlong of the KwaZulu-Natal Champions Season arrives at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday, 26 July, as World Pool Gold Cup Day delivers an unforgettable afternoon of world-class racing, international betting, great entertainment and family fun.

Defending champion Gladatorian returns to his favourite course and distance, while L’Ormarins King’s Plate winner The Real Prince has had this race firmly in his sights throughout the season. Speed takes centre stage in the Mercury Sprint Gr 1 over 1200m. Defending champion Buffalo Storm Cody returns after an encouraging runner-up finish in the Post Merchants Stakes, where he was narrowly beaten by Jet Force. Meeting again at level weights could easily reverse that result. Meanwhile, Questioning continues to build a compelling Horse of the Year campaign. Although a wide draw presents a challenge, victory would further strengthen an outstanding season that has already included victories in the World Pool Gold Challenge Gr 1, Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes Gr 2, Independent on Saturday Drill Hall Stakes Gr 2 and a placing in the L’Ormarins King’s Plate.
The future stars of South African racing will be on display in the World Pool Moment of the Day Premiers Champion Stakes Gr 1 over 1600m. Golden Horseshoe winner Vibe Check heads the field after an impressive juvenile campaign, although stepping up in distance could provide opportunities for several exciting challengers.
The day’s namesake feature, the World Pool Gold Cup Gr 3 over 3200m, remains South Africa’s premier staying contest. Former winners Future Pearl, Master Redoute and King Pelles all return in search of another Gold Cup triumph, while Enflame, Ahead Of The Facts and Holding Thumbs add further depth to what promises to be one of the strongest renewals of the marathon in recent years.
