Drakenstein Stud-based stallion One World has already smashed his father Captain Al’s 2004/2005 freshman record of 22 individual winners and looked set to beat the latter’s overall two-year-old record set in 2009 of 30 individual winners.

However, he has been stuck on 26 individual winners for a while as continuous torrential rain in Cape Town plays havoc with the racing program.

The records show that 19 of the 36 wins One World’s progeny have accumulated have been in Cape Town, so this is the centre where he seems to have most of his chances.

So hopefully the two meetings scheduled at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth next week will go ahead.

One World’s next chance of a winner will be at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday in a 1200m poly maiden. However, this Dennis Bosch-trained filly Fantastic World was beaten by more than 15 lengths on debut over 1000m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville, so will have to show vast improvement.

On Monday at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth One World has a good chance in race 2 over 1200m with the Justin Snaith-trained Please Be True, a Drakenstein homebred, owned in partnership with Ravi Naidoo’s Kalinga and Pamela Isdell. He made a good debut over course and distance and has a winning chance with expected improvement.

In the third race over 1600m the Vaughan Marshall-trained pair Wood World and Happy Days will need to improve and both have wide draws. Wood World does not have bad form and should appreciate the step up in trip, so is not out of it.

On Wednesday at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth One World has no fewer than four chances of having another individual winner in the third race, a Maiden Juvenile Plate for fillies over 1400m.

The Vaughan Marshall-trained Pentolina should go close from draw three under Ashton Arries. She should beat her stablemate Timeline, whose form is moderate.

The Justin Snaith-trained One Giant Leap will need to improve and the Adam Marcus-trained My Only Weakness will also need to improve and has a terrible draw of 15 out of 15.

There will only be two more weeks left in the season after Wednesday’s meeting so time is running out.

Can One World get the four wins necessary to equal the record or the five wins needed to break it?
