The first Grade 1 of the inaugural Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Summer Racing Festival, the R1 million World Sports Betting Gr1 Cape Fillies Guineas, to be run on Saturday 3 December, drew 22 first entries on Monday.
Asiye Phambili, the alpahebtical first runner on the list, is an immediate eye catcher because she runs tomorrow in a handicap at Turffontein Inside where she is possibly good value odds of 7/1 if an entry into this race tells of how well she is regarded.
There are six horses from out of province trainers altogether.
The impressive tab4Racing Fillies Mile winner Emirate Gina is not among them, but Bless My Stars, who was unplaced behind her, is an entry.
Local Ciao Bella and East Cape raider Ekoria are the highest rated entries on 110.
Jet Dark and Kommetdieding will clash in the Grade 2 R500,000 Green Point Stakes and their old foe Linebacker is also in the line up.
Golden Ducat, Rascallion and Cosmic Highway are three other high profile entries, while Russian Rock is one of the Grade 1 winners in the field and the talented Universal makes his awaited reappearance.
There are a number of visitiing horses in the Grade 2 R350,000 Southern Cross Stakes. The Mike and Adam Azzie yard said they would only bring the talented Sheela down for one Cape Festival Of Racing event, either this one or the Grade 1 Cape Flying, so time will tell whether they take their place here in what is likely the easier option.
Grade 1 winner Princess Calla is another eyecatching entry and she is now with the fourth trainer of her well-travelled career.
Supplementary entries close at 11h00 on Friday 25 November, with declarations for all three of the day’s features due by 11h00 on Monday 28 November.
