The Tattersalls October Yearling Book 3 Sale began yesterday (Thursday) and saw a horse with a South African connection topping day one of the three day sale.
A bay colt by Too Darn Hot (Dubawi) out of one-time winner Moohareeba fetched the day’s top price of 130,000 Gns (R3,164,070).
Too Darn Hot was a three-time Group 1 winner and Moohareeba is a daughter of the Mike de Kock-trained Mahbooba, who was the 2009/2010 season’s Equus Champion Two-year-old filly as winner of the Gr 1 Golden Slipper at Clairwood.
Mahbooba also won the Gr 2 Debutante at Scottsville and went on to win the Gr 2 Balanchine in Dubai as well as the Listed UAE Guineas and she also won the Listed Godolphin Stakes at Newmarket.
This is also the family of Slew The Red, a dual Gr 3 winner in France, who stood in South Africa and whose only stakes winner was the Gr 2 Emerald Cup winner Phunyuka.

“I’ll be here for Book 4,” she said. “I’ve bought four from Book 4 and they’ve all become stakes horses – everyone else has gone home by then. I have the stamina to stay through to the end, I just hope the horses don’t have as much stamina as I do!”
