Get Up gives Sean Tarry a 22nd Festival Of Speed feature (Race Coast)
Sean Tarry’s tally of Gr 1 winners at Hollywoodbets Scottsville would be 22 had the Allan Robertson sadly not lost its Gr 1 status this year as his What A Winter filly Get Up ran out an easy and impressive winner of this race on Saturday at Hollywoodbets Scottsville under Gavin Lerena.
The “King of Pietermaritzburg” will have to be judged on Festival Of Speed features races now and with a record 22 he has also not had a Festival Of Speed feature race blank since 2018, meaning he has won at least one of the four features for a phenomenal eight seasons in succession.
Drakenstein Stud’s top-class stallion, and multiple Equus Champion, What A Winter enjoyed another big payday at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Saturday.
His daughter Get Up showed her class when running out a convincing winner of Saturday’s G2 Allan Robertson Championship (1200m).
Under Gavin Lerena, the Sean Tarry trained two-year-old was quickly away and went out to make the running.
Get Up kept galloping resolutely in the closing stages, and stayed on strongly to claim her biggest win to date by nearly three and a half lengths.
Bred and owned by Drakenstein Stud, Saturday’s winner has won three of four starts, with Get Up having also won this season’s G3 TAB Pretty Polly Stakes.
Get Up, who is out of the Kingsbarns mare Gabor, is one of five two-year-old winners this season for What A Winter, South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs in 2019-2020.
Get Up is the first Allan Robertson Championship for her sire, with What A Winter also responsible for 2023 Allan Robertson runner up Winter Cloud.
What A Winter is also the sire of Gr 1 SA Fillies S[print winner Asiye Phambili.
