Sean Tarry has some cracking two-year-olds this season and they impressed again when Cosmic Speed and Proceed finished first and second in the Gr 2 Durban Golden Horseshoe on Hollywoodbets Durban July Day.

The pair reversed the form of the Gr 1 Gold Medallion, where Proceed had beaten Cosmic Speed by three parts of a length.

However, Proceed was hampered by a wide draw in the Golden Horseshoe and ran a great race under the circumstances.

Under Craig Zackey, the progressive Cosmic Speed was always handy in Saturday’s contest and hit the front someway out.Zackey kept his gelding going strongly, and Cosmic Speed stayed on smartly to score by over two lengths. The runner-up caught the eye, because not only did he have that poor draw, but he also ran around in the closing stages. They both look to be very exciting prospects.

The Maine Chance Farms (Pty) Ltd.-bred Cosmic Speed has now won twice from four starts. The classy gelding races for Heinrich and Hester Kuhn, Mr Krishen Naidoo, and Hon. Justice G N Kruger.

A son of Querari, Cosmic Speed is a full-brother to G2 Debutante winner Cosmic Light (also raced by Heinrich) and a half-brother to multiple graded stakes winner Cosmic Highway.

Sean also went close to winning the Hollywoodbets Durban July for a third time on Saturday when champion Cousin Casey flew up to finish a close up second. The luckless son of Vercingetorix looks overdue for his next Gr 1 win, having finished second in each of his last three starts.
