The Ridgemont bred Vercingetorix filly Good Day Sunshine maintained her unbeaten record when she powered home under Richard Fourie to win the R350 000 Wilgerbosdrift Gr2 SA Fillies Nursery to open the 2026 Champions Day feature bill at Turffontein on Saturday.

Fourie, who rode three winners at Fairview 24 hours earlier, expressed his surprise when seeing the winner in the preliminaries.

“I won on her first time out. I didn’t recognise her. She has grown into a beautiful filly. She showed her class and ability in the race,” added the former SA Champion.

After Queen Leila led the way, Good Day Sunshine (9-2) was brought through from off them and she went on impressively to beat Griselda (9-2) by 0,40 lengths in a time of 68,94 secs for the 1160m.

The 18-10 favourite Get Up finished a half length off in a disappointing run for her Bipot fans.

Now a winner of 2 races from her 2 starts for stakes of R385 001, Good Day Sunshine is a daughter of Vercingetorix (Silvano) out of the Gr1 winner Miss Florida, a daughter of Captain Al, who has already produced a stakes winner with her first foal, Miami Mountain (Canford Cliffs).

Mat de Kock labelled the Ridgemont Racing and Devin Heffer owned flyer ‘an exciting prospect’.
