Piere Strydom is seemingly further away from retirement than he has been since his comeback from an eye issue two-and-a-half years ago as he is suddenly associated with a plethora of top horses including Fatal Flaw, Quid Pro Quo, See It Again and Dyce.
Quid Pro Quo and Fatal Flaw are probably the two best fillies in the country and are unlikely to clash until the Champions Season in KZN, but as Piere is retained by Fatal Flaw’s owners he would have to ride her if there was a clash (presuming he will keep the Quid Pro Quo ride).
However, when it was put to him that Fatal Flaw might even be able to beat Quid Pro Quo his reply was swift and adamant, “No. No, no!”
He continued, “Quid Pro Quo has beaten her twice before at Hollywoodbets Greyville and I think Quid Pro Quo is better on a course with a longer run in and even though Fatal Flaw won on Saturday the way Quid Pro Quo won the Dingaans after a four month break was super impressive.”
When asked whether it could be published that he rated Quid Pro Quo better, he replied, “Yes, my owners must know the truth!”
Piere agreed that Quid Pro Quo was “a freak” and he decribed the kick she gave as “unbelievable.”
He said his danger Greaterix was four lengths in front of him entering the straight in the Betway Dingaans and when he asked her to give him a feel of what she still had he knew immediately he was fine and she would do it.
She duly required just a single backhander to reach the line 2,50 lengths clear of the runner up Fire Attack and she was five lengths clear of Greaterix.
That is not to say he is unimpressed with Fatal Flaw, whom he said had all the credentials of a good horse i.e. a good temperament, gatespeed, a good cruising speed that she was able to maintain at a relaxed tempo,  and a fine kick.
Quid pro Quo is set to go for the Wilgerbosdrift Triple Tiara, while Fatal Flaw’s targets look to be in Cape Town.
