The Justin Snaith-trained Vercingetorix five-year-old Sail The Seas finished a 0,45 length fourth in last season’s Gr 1 wfa L’Ormarins King’s Plate, but hasn’t been seen since finishing a 5,50 length ninth in the Gr 1 WSB Met on January 31 this year.
However, he is on the comeback trail and after a pleasing grass gallop at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth last Wednesday he might be seen in the King’s Plate again this season.
Jonathan Snaith said about the former Gr 2 WSB Guineas winner, who has been gelded during his layoff, “Sail The Seas has navigated his way through some particularly rough waters, but the talented gelding has finally emerged from the storm and is now sound, looking well, and back on course for the Cape Summer Season.
Justin’s greatest challenge will be keeping him sound as the pressure increases and his preparation intensifies. There is no questioning his ability, but keeping him sound as he builds towards the summer’s major races will be the key to unlocking his potential.
Encouragingly, he pulled up beautifully following his grass gallop at Kenilworth last Wednesday, where Mickaëlle Michel was in the saddle. She handled him superbly, and there is every possibility that she could partner him in the season’s two showpiece events, the L’Ormarins King’s Plate and the WSB Cape Met.
While we are certainly not out of troubled waters just yet, the skies are clearing.
If Justin can keep him free of any niggles, Sail The Seas could prove a formidable force for some silverware over the summer.”
