Good Traveller is well weighted in the Gr 1 Golden Horse Sprint on best form (Candiese Lenferna)

Michael Roberts, fresh from Gr 1 glory in the Daily News 2000, said he believed Good Traveller would think he was “running loose” carrying 54kg in the Gr 1 Golden Horse Sprint.

He said, “He is very well and is in a good space. The handicapper has been kind to him for the first time for ages and dropped him five points, so I believe he will think he is running loose carrying that weight (54kg). It is his third run after a layoff too and he has definitely come on from that last run.”

He admitted, “He is a bit deceptive because he is a very good work horse, so I thought he would run well in that comeback race over 1000m but he is probably more suited to 1200m to 1400m these days.”

He also mentioned his form appearing to be best, when in good company, at Hollywoodbets Greyville. That included a narrow second in the Gr 2 Post Merchants last year.

However, Good Traveller had no luck in last year’s Golden Horse when quietly fancied by former trainer Glen Kotzen.

He faced the breeze the whole way from a good draw of six and finished a 6,65 lengths 12th.

This year he is drawn perfectly in seven and off a three point lower merit rating sneaks into the handicap with the minimum weight of 54kg.

Hopefully, he can find cover. Roberts believes the horse drawn next to him Supreme Warrior has speed and hoped that would help Good Traveller’s cause.

He concluded, “I am hoping for a nice run.”

His first call rider Rachel Venniker has tasted big race success this year with victory aboard the Paul Matchett-trained Eye Of The Prophet (Gimmethegreenlight) in the Gr 2 WSB Gauteng Guineas and she is now looking for her first Gr 1 victory.

Meanwhile, See It Again has pulled up as well as ever from his impressive win in the Gr 1 Daily News 2000 and is on track for the big one, the Gr 1 Hollywoodbets Durban July.
