Racing aficionado Robert Bloomberg is one of many around the country who have been watching Richard Fourie’s incredible progress towards breaking Anthony Delpech’s famous 334 record and urging him on.
Bloomberg penned his feelings about his chances at the beginning of the season and after researching the statistics and considering other factors declared that the record was “well-nigh impossible to achieve in this day and age.”
However, he will be glad to be proven wrong and said, “It would appear that bar injury or suspension, Richard is an odds-on favourite to achieve what to me quite frankly looked impossible. It would be a remarkable feat considering the substantial amount of reduced meetings today as compared to when Bonji set the 334 record. With the amount of travel Richard has had to endure and will continue to do on an ever increasing basis as he nears his goal, the financial carrot that was dangled will be so well deserved. Everybody is rooting for him.”
Hollywoodbets will reward anybody who breaks the record with a R1 million bonus.
Delpech’s 334 wins in the 1998/1999 season was for many years considered the safest record in South African sport.
However, Fourie’s projected number of wins for the season based on his season’s rides-per-calendar-day rate and strike rate now stands at 347.
Robert’s research into the statistics at the beginning of the season and the subsequent article he put out now bears testament to the enormity of the task Fourie faced and the what an incredible achievement it will be if he does it.
