Mrs Geriatrix gets the Gr 1 ball rolling for the Sean Tarry and Richard Fourie combination on Saturday (Picture: Chase Liebenberg).
Mrs Geriatrix became the fourth progeny of Vercingetorix to win a Gr 1 1200m race at Hollywoodbets Scottsville, following Vernichey, Ambiorix and Alesian Chief, when winning the Gr 1 Allan Robertson Championship on Saturday.
He has also had Gr 1 winners over middle distances i.e Cape Derby winner Pomp And Power and Premier’s Champions Challenge winner Astrix.
Cousin Casey, who won the Premier’s Champion Stakes over 1600m, and Chansonette, who won the WSB Cape Fillies Guineas, are his other Gr 1 winners.
The fact he is producing classic winners as well as top class horses of both genders over sprints and middle distances points to him possibly being a better sire than his legendary father Silvano.
Winter Storm looked the one to beat in the Allan Robertson, but Mrs Geriatrix should have been closer to her in the betting having not had anything go her way in the SA Fillies Nursery and still getting up to win.
It proved to be no contest.
Aldo Domeyer rode a confident race on Winter Storm. and had her in last place tailed off by a couple of lengths.
However, when she drew alongside Mrs Geriatrix’s quarters the latter, who had shown good cruising speed, quickened superbly and ricocheted away.
Richard Fourie had time to look behind him for the last few strides, before shaking his fist triumphantly at the ecstatic owners on the sidelines.
She remains unbeaten in four starts.
The dream continues for the Magical Lady Syndicate whose nominee is Natalie Turner, CEO of the Racehorse Owners Association.
The Clifton Stud-bred filly was purchased for a bargain R200,000 at the BSA National Yearling Sale last year.
Mrs Geriatrix is out of a Kahal maiden who is a half-sister to the Gr 2-winning middle distance performer Fort Vogue (Fort Wood), so could also train on into a classic performer.
