Snow Pilot’s impressive demolition of the opposition in a Progress Plate over 1400m on November 16 at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth has received the highest Ability Rating (AR) from renowned racing analyst Karel Miedema this season to date. (Picture: Wayne Marks).
Karel Miedema’s highest AR (ability rating) for the season has been an impressive 121 achieved by Snow Pilot when winning a Progress Plate event over 1400m on November 16 by six lengths.
For second highest, Miedema gave 116 to See It Again for his run in the Gr 1 Betway Summer Cup, where he finished a 2,50 length fifth carrying topweight of 60kg.
The Summer Cup runner up Purple Pitcher was awarded a 108 by Miedema and the winner Atticus Finch received 107.
Miedema gave Main Defender a 113 AR for his runner up finish in the Gr 3 Victory Moon Stakes.
He gave Winchester Mansion 112 for his Gr 2 Allied Steelrode Onamission Charity Mile win and gave Pistol Pete and Ziyasha 112 for their respective best runs of the season.
The sprinter Dyce has received 111 AR’s twice this season.
Rascallion, Lucky Lad and William Robertson have also received 111 AR’s this season.
Miedema gave Back In Business a 110 for his win in the Gr 2 Betway Jo’Burg Spring Challenge over 1400m.
Montien has also run a 110 this season, while Melech has run a 109.
108s have been scored not only by Purple Pitcher, but also by Royal Victory, Questioning, Gimme A Prince and Zapatillas.
Oriental Charm received a 107 AR for his win in the Gr 2 WSB Green Point Stakes. Interestingly, that was exactly the same mark Miedema gave him last season for his Hoillywoodbets Durban July win.
Atticus Finch and Royal Aussie have also achieved 107s.
Miedema to date has not given any three-year-old classic horses high ratings.
The sprinter Pistol Pete’s 112 was given when he finished second to Greaterix over 1100m, when giving the latter 9kg.
The crack colt One Stripe has been given only the 35th best AR in the country for his best performance of the season to date.
Miedema gave the top 3YO colt a 103 for his second place finish to Snow Pilot when giving the latter weight over 1400m and he gave him only a 101 for his Gr 2 Cape Punters Cup victory.
Sensational filly Quid Pro Quo only receeived a 99 for her Gr 2 Betway Dingaans win.
Ice Star and Asiye Phambili have both achieved 104 ARs this season, the highest among the female racehorses.
All of Fatal Flaw, Double Grand Slam, Red Palace, Fairy Nightcd and Rascova have achied 101 ARs.
The accuracy of the ratings is usually challenged by various pundits to some degree, but they often turn out to be relatively accurate.
