Alec Laird would have lamented the scratching of Fire Attack from the Gr 2 TAB Gauteng Guineas as he looked the horse to beat, but it all turned out well in the end as his outsider Parisian Walkway fought back to beat the odds on favourite Greaterix.
Parisian Walkway jumped well from pole position and went to the front where he set a good pace at a beautiful rhthm under Diego De Gouveia.
He kept going well but was caught by Greaterix on the inside rail late in the day and the latter looked home and hosed as he cruised past.
However, Greatrix’s stamina doubts then became reality and he began treading water.
The Ideal World gelding fought back and at odds of 25/1 gave Wilgerbosdrift and Mauritzfontein a Guineas double as breeders.
Raced by Gary Basel, Lance Clark & Werner Volschenk, Parisian Walkway is a R450 000 BSA National 2yo Sale buy.
