Gold Circle
R1 6 EXPLOSIVE SPEED has the expertise of William Bambiso in the saddle and after putting up some good efforts over further, he drops back in trip to 1000m but in this sort of field he should be the one to beat. 8 MANEKI NEKO is the biggest danger after a gutsy effort when finishing third in his latest start. 3 ROGUE MALE has been running well in work riders races of late and should be in the quartet if he races. 2 PRINCESS VIRGINIE is better than recent form but fillies don’t have the best of records in work riders races (Devon Pretorius: 6-8-3-2)
R2 3 IKO IKO showed solid improvement in his second start and finished ahead of Impact Investor who came out to win last week. With further improvement expected he should be the one to beat. 6 UNSUNG HERO is an interesting runner who showed plenty of pace on debut and faded in the closing stages. If he can settle with more racing experience to come, he could be a nice sort in the making. 7 BLOWIN IN THE WIND has been consistent and receives the 2,5kgs sex allowance from her male opponents and should be right there in the finish. Watch the market for any betting support for the first timers (Devon Pretorius: 3-6-7-9)
R3 There was only 0,3 lengths separating 8 SHEETS AND GOGGLES and 1 IN THE GREEN ZONE on their debut runs and it could be left to these two to fight it out. There is a slight preference for the former as she was well backed on debut and there seems to be a slight bias for the runners drawn to the middle-outside down the Kenilworth straight. 3 PRISCILLA MAISEY ran on well on debut but is held by In The Green Zone from that run. 5 PROMO QUEEN finished midfield on debut in the Cape Slipper and should improve from that run (Devon Pretorius: 8-1-3-5)
R4 6 BLUE BAY has been punching well above his weight when finishing 6th in the G3 Politician Stakes despite being a maiden. He’s been entered into the Derby at the end of the month and has the best maiden form heading into this race. 1 SPELLING BEE finally has a good draw and should improve considerably jumping from barrier 1. 4 VOORLOOPERTJIE was disappointing in his last start and should bounce back to his prior form when he ran 1,2 lengths behind The Grey King in his penultimate start. 5 MIDWAY improved over the mile and should continue that trend again. Expect 7 SONG TO THE MOON to run a better race after finding problems in the closing stages in his last start. (Devon Pretorius: 6-1-4-7)
R5 10 PRETTY PRECIOUS is the standout in what is a competitive maiden plate if you look past the first selection. Her last start she finished second behind a really smart filly Kyalami Girl and if she repeats an effort similar to that, she should take a power of beating. 9 CAPTAIN’S DESTINY was behind her in third on that occasion and shouldn’t be far off again. 7 LOVE SHACK is well in with a few collateral formlines and could place at a good price. 6 HANGING ROCK has been in consistent form and with Richard Fourie in the saddle she should have every chance. Respect for 16 KAAPSE HOOP as well as 11 LUCY ROCKET in an open race. (Devon Pretorius: 10-9-7-6)
R6 3 WECANGOALLNIGHT was beaten on the line by Promettere in his last start and the latter has subsequently won again proving he was ahead of the handicapper. Behind Wecangoallnight was 7 ITSRAININGWILLIAM who won his next start but is now 2,5kgs worse off at the weights. The two three-year olds 6 HAT’S PRIDE and 8 QUESTIONING are ought to fight out the minor placings (Devon Pretorius: 3-7-6-8)
R7 Not a strong Fillies and Mares Cape C stakes field and an upset would not be surprising. 8 COULDITBE ran a great race from a wide draw in her last start and moved up well but emptied out in the closing stages. In a much weaker field she should be the one to beat. 6 LOREINA has been holding form since her maiden win and is expected to hold form here despite 61,5kgs. If 7 ENCHANTING CHOICE can repeat her penultimate run she should go very close to winning but she was a bit flat in her last start. 10 FIGURE EIGHT steps up further in trip with 61,5kgs but a chance is taken on her to finish in the quartet ahead of 9 DUAL AGENT who could be a lurker in the pack. (Devon Pretorius: 8-6-7-10)
R8 10 PROMETTERE is badly in at the weights with a few runners on a few collateral formlines but he has been improving at a rapid rate and it looks like there is still more to come. 1 LINDBERGH comes in with just 53,5kgs and finally cracks a good draw. He does take a step up in class but he has been consistent and is progressive. 7 FUTURE TURN bounced back to form in his last start and if you ignore his penultimate run, he is one of the more consistent runners in the race. 5 ROSH KEDESH hasn’t been far off in recent starts and should be involved in the back end of quartets as well 2 NEVADA KING (Devon Pretorius: 10-1-7-5)
