1 1:10 PM – Hollywoodbets Durbanville Welcomes You Maiden Plate
Competitive opener. NORDIC CHIEF, while not disgraced, was slightly disappointing last time after an encouraging debut. He should, however, have more to offer having been gelded since so could make amends despite a wide draw. IN THE BAG improved to finish 4th over this course and distance before a subsequent, and he too will have more to give. COUNTER ATTACK and BIG UNIT ought to improve with the benefit of an outing, so could get into the picture. GO IT ALONE was beaten as the odds-on favourite last time but had excuses that day and must be respected on his reappearance. Watch the newcomers!
Top Tip: GO IT ALONE (3)
Watch out for: MR BELVEDERE (9)
2 1:45 PM – Hollywoodbets Durbanville Country Series Maiden Plate (F & M)
LOREINA caught the eye on debut, despite a slow start from a wide draw, by running on well from a long way back to take 3rd over track and trip. She is again drawn wide but will improve with the benefit of that experience so is worth siding with. PINK MOON stayed on to finish an encouraging 3rd on debut (1000m) and, on that evidence, should be even more competitive over this trip with natural improvement expected. JAPANESE ROSE, although held on that form, and TEQUILA SKY, on her return to this trip, were drawn wide last time and should make their presence felt from favourable starting stalls.
Top Tip: FANNY KEMBLE (1)
Watch out for: PINK MOON (10)
3 2:20 PM – Cape Racing Sales Maiden Plate
Good race. GET IMPRESSED has been getting closer with each outing and, after close-up finishes in his two starts after he was gelded, wouldn’t be winning out of turn in his peak outing. Well-bred FOUDRE (half-brother to Grade 1 winners Rainbow Bridge, Golden Ducat, and active stallion Hawwaam) was an expensive yearling and caught the eye on debut with a fast-finishing 2nd over 1250m. He ought to come on appreciably with that experience and will, on pedigree, find this distance more to his liking. Year-older OLIVER has both the form and experience to pose a threat to those younger rivals.
Top Tip: GET IMPRESSED (1)
Watch out for: FOUDRE (3)
4 2:57 PM – Genuine Ennion Syndicate Class 2
Tricky. SENSO UNICO, one of just three course-and-distance winners in the race, won a 2000m Listed event at this course last time and is weighted to confirm the form with THE FUTURIST and SOMERSET MAUGHAM, both of whom are likely to pose more of a threat over this distance. ONE WAY TRAFFIC, another with a course-and-distance success, finished ahead of that rival in the Gold Cup and is better off at the weights. He has run well fresh and is the pick of the Snaith runner on riding arrangements. MONEY HEIST, however, could represent the value as he should find this distance more to his liking.
Top Tip: LIGHT SPEED (1)
Watch out for: SOMERSET MAUGHAM (2)
5 3:35 PM – Cape Turf Club Syndicates Cape B Stakes
Good race. Last-start winner MUCHO DINERO has bounced back to his best after gelding and is capable of defying a five-point penalty and unfavourable weight turnaround by following up in just his second start over this distance. Consistent SUDDEN SONG, runner-up to that rival last time, will pose a threat on 2kg better terms, so too could CORONATION TIME who was unlucky not to have finished closer last time. IMPETUOUS is closely matched with the selection on these terms. Frontrunner MACHETE MAN ought to fare better with the blinkers refitted and COSMIC EVENT is also capable of having a say.
Top Tip: IMPETUOUS (1)
Watch out for: MUCHO DINERO (2)
6 4:07 PM – Centenary Club Class 3
Good race. GREEN WITH ENVY quickened smartly to make a winning Cape introduction over 1400m and with improvement expected over this distance, could remain undefeated and be well on his way to the Guineas. Distance-suited stablemates FUTURE TURN and FUTURE SWING (undefeated over track and trip) concede weight to that 3yo rival but are likely to give cheek, nonetheless. CARRIACOU in his peak outing, and returning MONTIEN, are closely matched on form with those Snaith-trained runners so ought to make their presence felt too. PROMETTERE and NATYAM also have the means to play a role in the finish.
Top Tip: CARRIACOU (1)
Watch out for: GREEN WITH ENVY (2)
7 4:45 PM – destinationcaperacing Cape B Stakes
Tricky. Consistent BEERENBERG has only once been beaten in three course-and-distance outings and despite jumping from the widest draw, ought to be competitive over this trip having rattled to finish a close-up 2nd over 1000m last time. Both STEINBECK and returning ROSH KEDESH are at the top of their games and have the form and experience to pose a threat. PIROSHKA should also have more to offer given this slight ease in grade with improved fitness on his side and over a distance more to his liking. SAN PEDRO and WYAG are not without chances either. Good race!
Top Tip: PIROSHKA (2)
Watch out for: SAN PEDRO (3)
8 5:20 PM – Hollywoodbets Bright Future Cape B Stakes (F & M)
WINTER CLOUD finished 2nd in a 2yo Grade 1 behind unbeaten Mrs Geriatrix and there’s little reason to suggest she won’t train on, so is hard to oppose on her 3yo reappearance. Both BALTIC SECRET and THE CHARLESTON also revealed their quality as juveniles and could have more to offer this campaign. ONI SAN and FLYING V are also likely to improve as sophomores. Both versatile MISS GREENLIGHT and consistent WHERE’S THE PARTY are older rivals with sound form credentials so warrant respect under these conditions. BODY ELECTRIC and LA PURA VIDA complete the shortlist.
Top Tip: ONI SAN (4)
Watch out for: WINTER CLOUD (5)
