Gavin Smith sounded a warning to arch rival Alan Greeff on the Fairview poly today (Tuesday), underlining he will be no pushover this season as he sent out a four-timer, all of them ridden by Calvin Habib.
Last season it was no race, unlike many of the previous seasons, as Greeff had 165 wins in the East Cape to Smith’s 116.
However, with Greeff only having one winner today the rivals are locked together on six wins each this season, Greeff doing it at a strike rate of 18.75% and Smith at 13.95%.
Wilgerbosdrift and Mauritzfontein bred two of the day’s eight winners.
Wilgerbosdrift Stud-based stallion Fire Away also had a double.
Drakenstein Stud-based stallion Futura had a double too.
