Comments from Dean Kannemeyer, trainer of the race favourite.
🏇“GREEN WITH ENVY goes into the Daily News on Saturday, as his final preparation for the Hollywoodbets Durban July.
His run in the WSB Guineas Gr2, in preparation for Champions Season, was a very good run. He finished his race off very strongly to get up to win … in a race where conditions were not in his favour, as there was a strong tail wind and the 1600m was too sharp for him. He came from last to beat Sandringham Summit, which impressed me. The run would have sharpened him up, so he knows what it’s all about when he swings for home with the short run-in.
I came into the race with a soft ‘prep’, because his ultimate goal is the ‘The July’. He is maturing and strengthening up by the day. He’s in good shape and I was happy with his final workout.
The Daily News attracts the best 3-year-olds over 2000m, in my opinion. With only 9 runners, there is always concern whether it will be run at a genuine pace … if they go slow, they could turn it into a sprint, but all’s gone well in his preparation and we look forward to the race on Saturday!”

Comments from James Crawford, assistant trainer of Frances Ethel.
🏇“FRANCES ETHEL is flying at home. She’s had a flawless ‘prep’ and I’m exceptionally happy with her. She’s been ‘putting in’ some serious races. I’ve asked her to step up on multiple occasions in her career. Some of the fields have been big and strong, but she’s done it. On Saturday, she’s drawn 2 with 57.5kg and is the best rated horse in the race. There’s obviously a few runners that can be competitive on the day and it doesn’t look an easy field. On her work and wellbeing, we’re expecting a really good run from her. She’s going to be a massive runner and must be respected”.
