Gavin Lerena had seven rides at the Turffontein Inside track today for four wins and three seconds.
He had four successive winning rides on the Erico Verdonese-trained DJ Junior (Diesel Jet) in race 3, the Tony Peter-trained Basingstoke (Admiral Kitten) in race 4, the Mike and Adam Azzie-trained Kia Kaha (Var) in race 5 and the Azzie-trained Andi’s Girl (Fire Away) in race 7.
He reached the 50 win mark for the season on Kia Kaha and made it 51 on Andi’s Girl and he has done it at a strike rate of 28.81%.
He is now eleven behind leader Muzi Yeni in the national championship.
The Azzies were joined by Piere Strydom as double scorers on the day.
Strydom, who denied Lerena a fifth win when extracting a late burst from the Roy Magner-trained Queen Of Love (Rafeef) in tihe 8th race, is on 22 wins for the season at a strike rate of 27.85%.
The Azzie are on 12 wins at 24.49%.
