Humdinger has previously been best suited to 1400m but Mike de Kock’s comments on her Ridgemont Garden Province Stakes chances are thought  provoking (Candiese Lenferna Photography)
Michele Wing of Gold Circle compiled the following video preview of the Gr 1 Ridgemont Garden Province Stakes.
The transcribed comments are below.
Trainer / Jockey Comments (runners in current betting order)
🏇3. Double Grand Slam : “She’s a super-star filly. Great draw. Good jockey. She’s coming in with impeccable form and probably our best runner on the day”, Gokhan Terzi.
🏇6. Silver Sanctuary : “I think that taking the line through the Guineas form, she’s the horse to beat. She’s going into this race, in a very good space”, Mike de Kock.
🏇10. Rascova : “We nominated for the previous race (Woolavington 2000), but she would have had to have given Double Grand Slam a kilo and a half. We thought ‘what for’ and rather bring her to Greyville for a gallop. She came through really well. She hasn’t got the best of draws, but it isn’t a big field”, Glen Kotzen.
🏇5. Red Palace : “Candice is very clever with the way she targets certain races up in KZN, as she did on Golden Horse Sprint day. Red Palace has settled in well. Her work was impressive (she worked at Greyville on gallop day). She was aware of her surroundings, but wasn’t intimidated by it. She’s drawn 5”, Terry Fripp.
🏇8. Humdinger : “She’s very competitive. A strong front runner. She stayed on very well against Double Grand Slam last time. I felt if they had gone another 200m, she may have got to her”, Mike de Kock.
🏇4. Bavarian Beauty : “I couldn’t have her any better. She has a handy draw of 4. She’s going to go up forward and has a swing around at the weights with Double Grand Slam, which brings them much closer together”, Tony Peter.
🏇9. Hold My Hand : “I think the race will suit her as they’ll go a decent ‘clip’. From the draw, she’ll be coming off them, which she likes to do”, Glen Kotzen.
🏇2. Mrs Browning : “She’s more of a speed horse having won up to 1450m. She hasn’t competed over the mile, so she is taking a chance here. We have the draw. She’ll be competitive if she sees it out”, Sean Tarry.
🏇7. Asiye Phambili : “She won the Poinsettia Stakes by 4 lengths … just cantered home. She’s classy. I think the mile is well within her range and so does Mr Howells. The draw will be a little tricky, but with luck, the draw won’t matter”, Rachel Venniker.
🏇11. Celtic Rumours : “She’s got it all to do. She’s out at the weights, but a filly that’s definitely on the up. Being her first run over the mile, I’m not unhappy for her to come from off them, so the deep draw shouldn’t be an issue”, Sean Tarry.
🏇1. Happy Chance : “I think the Greyville mile will suit her. She’s come on a lot from her last run. I do think that Justin’s filly (Double Grand Slam) is beatable over the mile”, James Crawford.
