Charl Pretorius writes in his Off The Record column that renowned bloodstock manager John Freeman, who manages a number of stallions, has called for racing owners to take a chance with their retired mares and breed with them.
He said the indiustry needs it, with a worringly low number of mares in circulation for the 53 registered stallions, and he added that breeding can sometimes yield windfall results from small beginnings.
