2 LION RAMPART looks like a talented horse in the making after doing everything wrong in his last start and won with plenty left in the tank. His only problem could be his habit of jumping patches before the line and obvious greenness which was clear in his latest. 15 SWEETIE DARLING was doing her best work late in her last start behind Roman Agent and is now 2kgs better off at the weights. She beat Lion Rampart on debut and actually holds him on form based from that run. 8 ROMAN AGENT won in just his second start and has obvious claims with more improvement to come. Watch for 11 ALL IS GREEN as well as 12 COLD SHINE who should make their presence felt (Devon Pretorius: 2-15-8)

19 HANDSOME PRINCE won going away in his second start after a good effort on debut with multiple winners having franked that formline. 6 TALK TO THE MASTER was just behind him in second but was doing his best work late and will have come on from that run. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him turn the form around on the first choice. 5 MASTER CASPER ran well on debut in a strong field behind Lion Rampart and Roman Agent. Hell improve from that run and should be good enough t place here. 11 COMMANDING hasn’t been far off in both of his starts and with more experience under the belt, he can finish closer here. Watch out for any betting support for the first timers (Devon Pretorius: 19-6-5-11)

8 GREEN WITH ENVY stands out by some margin in this years G3 Politician Stakes. He’s the best weighted in the race and should take a power of beating based on his Guineas fourth. Two runners that are improving rapidly are both 10 HAT’S PRIDE as well as 1 THE GREY KING who has now won two on the bounce. They should be fighting out the minor placings. 9 CALL TO UNITE was unlucky in his last start not to have won the race and is a runner that will certainly appreciate this distance and further. 6 GET IMPRESSED also deserves a mention based on his consistency and a light weight of 55,5kgs (Devon Pretorius: 8-10-9-1)

Nightmare start for the carryover Pick 6 with one of the most open races on the card and punters will need to go wide to survive. 4 AT MY COMMAND is the best weighted in the race and jumps from a good draw but his best form recently has been over further. However, he is in great form and stands out as one of the main contenders. 6 QUASIFORSURE is a 1400m specialist having won four of his five starts over 1400m and will be great for the father and son Muscutt duo to have a winner on one of Africa’s biggest racedays. 13 UNDERWORLD is improving and was flying at the finish in his last start and would have won in an extra stride. He comes in with just 52,5kgs and must be a big runner. 11 SILVER OPERATOR is another distance specialist and won over course and distance in his last start. Now third run after a rest, he will be in peak condition to give another honest effort here. All of 1 SILVER FALCON; 7 CAPTAIN FONTANE; 8 KING REGENT and 9 ZOOMIE must be included in a wide open race. (Devon Pretorius: 4-6-13-11)

Tricky. Stable companions 2 DISTANT WINTER and 5 WINTER CLOUD are the highest rated in the race and have been closely matched since day one with nothing much separating them. The former takes a big drop in distance from the mile back to a sprint and is the slight preference to win. 8 WINTER GREETING has been racing in a lot tougher races up in Joburg over further and her last win was actually over this distance. As an older filly carrying 59,5kgs, she could be the lurker in the pack with Piere Strydom in the saddle. 11 COLDHARDSTARE is an interesting runner with just 53,5kgs to carry. She finished second to Mrs Browning at the same weight who came out to beat Dyce. 12 SHANTASTIC wasn’t too far back in the Sceptre Stakes and now third run after a rest, she’ll be in peak condition to run a big race. 15 ONI SAN and 16 ENEMY TERRITORY must be included in wider permutations (2-5-8-11)

Based on the Winchester Sprint Cup, both 8 THUNDERSTRUCK and 9 ISIVUNGUVUNGU fought out the finish with the former coming out on top. With no weight turnaround a case can be made that the form shouldn’t change however, Isivunguvungu desperately need his last start and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him bounce back in the winners box. Raider 4 DYCE is a top sprinter from the Highveld who makes his local debut with a big reputation and it would be foolish to leave him out. 10 BARTHOLDI as well as 5 WE’RE JAMMING both have upset potential based on their different types of preps coming into this race. At face value the race should be fought out between the first three but we have seen in the past how the Cape Flying Championship can throw an upset every now and then. (Devon Pretorius: 9-8-4-10)

Competitive renewal of the Majorca Stakes if you look past the Paddock Stakes formline. 11 BEACH BOMB won that race timing her run to perfection to just get the better of 5 PRINCESS CALLA. However, the drop back to the mile will suit the latter and I think the form will be reversed. 6 MAKE IT SNAPPY returns after a year absence from the track but she is a highly talented filly and cannot be left out. 2 HAPPY CHANCE ran a huge race in third behind Beach Bomb and Princess Calla and was flying at the finish. 4 RED PALACE struggled to settle in running in a slow run race in the Paddock Stakes and is capable to run better over a touch shorter if she is allowed to dictate the pace on her own terms. This race could be more open than it looks and should be a cracking renewal of the City Of Cape Town Majorca Stakes (Devon Pretorius: 5-11-6-2)

The R7,5 million Cape Racing Gold Rush and it could be a case for the raiding trainers. 10 BAVARIAN BEAUTY stands out as the clear first selection with the sex allowance and victories over horses such as Egyptian Mau and Rascova certainly gives her a big chance in this field. 13 RAPIDASH could be a lurker in the field. His last formline, where he was controversially demoted to 2nd, Promettere has come out to win twice from that formline against much tougher fields and Rapidash finished 1,65 lengths ahead of him only receiving 1,5kgs. 8 TAIL OF THE COMET has disappointed against the classic colts over the mile but now meets a weaker field here and should be able to fight out the finish. 16 STORM BRASCO is improving and was just touched off in his latest against a talented sort. On breeding this trip won’t be a problem and is one of the few runners who won’t have an issue with the distance. 6 KING OF THE GAULS disappointed last time but he should run a much better race here (Devon Pretorius: 10-13-8-16)

The 2024 WSB Cape Town Met has arrived and without a doubt the star attraction, best bet on the card and one of SA’s top thoroughbreds, 11 SEE IT AGAIN headlines this years renewal and should take a power of beating. He was beaten into 2nd by one of South Africa’s greatest milers in the Kings Plate and now over a better distance of 2000m, See It Again is the one to beat. 5 BLESS MY STARS is a quality filly and has finished 3rd in both the Summer Cup as well as the Durban July behind See It Again. She makes her local debut but claims the sex allowance and is the chief danger to See It Again. 12 MONTIEN is a runner that is worth a good place bet. His last start the jockey dropped his rein 360 metres out and wasn’t able to pick it up again and still managed to finish within 2 lengths of See It Again. 6 MUCHO DINERO keeps defying the handicapper and is clearly a horse with ability. The way he’s progressing is admirable and must be given a mention in not the strongest Met fields we have seen. 8 ROYAL AUSSIE managed to finish 3rd in the LKP at big odds and his connections will be hoping he can produce a similar effort again (Devon Pretorius: 11-5-12-6)
R10
Raiders 3 ARAGOSTA as well as 13 NEBRAAS look to be the primary contenders in the Western Cape Stayers. Aragosta is 2kgs better off at the weights than Nebraas but the latter is a proven stayer over the years and a chance is taken on him to end up on top. 11 ONE WAY TRAFFIC has been costly to follow but he is seldom far off the action and must be included in the play. 4 TRIPLE TIME found one better in his last start and finished ahead of both Aragosta and Nebraas but is worse off on revised weights and stepping up to 2800m for the first time. (Devon Pretorius: 13-3-11-4)

9 STAR PERFORMER wasn’t given the hardest of rides in his first run after gelding and ran on well enough to suggest he is close to a win. Second start after gelding and he should have plenty of improvement to come. 8 PEREGRINE FALCON ran well on debut where he took off from last to run into third place and with natural improvement expected, he should go close with luck in running. 20 HOODIA has finished second in both starts and once again should make his presence felt. 1 CELTIC CHIEF has been gelded and with the stable in good form he can’t be left out especially dropping in distance back to a sprint. 5 SPEED RACER; 10 IGUGULETHU and 17 THE US OF A must all be respected as well in an open race to end the meeting (Devon Pretorius: 9-8-20-1)
