R1 14H50 – Godolphin Flying Start Zetland Stakes (Group 3)

This year’s Zetland Stakes seems to revolve around Godolphn’s two-year-old FLYING HONOURS. Charlie Appleby’s charge was denied a hat-trick last time when third of fourth in a better contest than this, and back in these calmer waters, he can stamp his authority on this field. Should he not fire, Dear My Friend appears the most likely to take advantage after a pleasing third in Listed company at Deauville last time. Batemans Bay heads the remainder.
Watch out for: DEAR MY FRIEND (4)
R2 15H25 – Emirates Autumn Stakes (Group 3)
Holloway Boy arrives here with a good shout after a second-placed effort last time in the Group 3 Tattersalls Stakes at this venue. The slight preference, however, is for Godolphin’s SILVER KNOTT, who was a good winner in this company of his penultimate start before disappointing in Group 2 company when last seen. Should Charlie Appleby’s charge return to form, he’ll take all of the beating, while the debut winner Epictetus could also be up to this.
Watch out for: HOLLOWAY BOY (5)
R3 16H00 – Darley Dewhurst Stakes (Group 1)
Nostrum looks sure to be popular following his victory in a Group 3 over C&D a couple of weeks ago, although he will have to improve on that form. With that in mind, a chance can be taken on AESOP’S FABLES, whose odds-on defeat in the National Stakes last time may have been due to the soft ground. On a quicker surface in the Futurity prior to that defeat, the son of No Nay Never was an impressive winner and he can be given another chance. Chaldean is capable of going well if allowed to dominate up front, while Naval Power is another to consider.
Watch out for: NOSTRUM (6)
R4 16H40 – Club Godolphin Cesarewitch Handicap (Heritage Handicap)
CALL MY BLUFF gets the vote. He was unlucky to be beaten by a head on his latest outing at Chester last month and, given he was denied a clear run on that occasion, he looks capable of going one better in this off a 1lb lower mark. He caught the eye when running on for third in the Cesarewitch Trial over this C&D on his penultimate outing and can make his presence felt, but Irish raider Baby Zeus seems a big threat stepping up in trip. Ahorsewithnoname and Run For Oscar are others to consider.
Top Tip: CALL MY BLUFF (21)
Watch out for: BABY ZEUS (11)
R5 17H15 – Too Darn Hot Nursery
Not many of these can be ruled out entirely, but DESERT ORDER made all in a hot maiden at York last time and he looks capable of defying top weight and winning again for the Godolphin team. In These Shoes won in impressive fashion at Redcar last time and she’s another to take very seriously, while Godolphin’s other runner Modern Dancer can’t be discounted either in a fascinating contest.
Watch out for: IN THESE SHOES (7)
R6 17H50 – Blue Point British EBF Boadicea Stakes (Fillies’ And Mares’ Listed)
Primo Bacio is always respected at this level, but her run at York last time suggested she does need further these days, so slight preference is for CHIL CHIL. Andrew Balding’s mare has performed to a decent level in defeat in Group company of late and, back at this level over a C&D she’s performed well at before, she can return to winning ways. Gale Force Maya is another to take very seriously back at Listed level.
Top Tip: CHIL CHIL (2)
Watch out for: PRIMO BACIO (7)
R7 18H20 – Masar Darley Stakes (Group 3)
ALFLAILA was a comprehensive winner of the Group 3 Strensall Stakes at York over this distance when last seen in August and gets the vote having been freshened up since. It’s no surprise that Charlie Appleby comes into this double handed given the amount of ammunition he has at his disposal and the four-year-old Royal Fleet looks the pick on jockey bookings having won a Listed race at Goodwood last month. The unexposed Ottoman Fleet drops in trip and it may be dangerous to underestimate him.
Top Tip: ALFLAILA (9)

Watch out for: ROYAL FLEET (8)
