Fire ‘N Flames got the ball rolling for freshman sire Fire Away at the Vaal Classic track last week (JC Photos).

Wilgerbosdrift stud-based War Front sire Fire Away had two wide margin winners last week and he joins New Predator as the only first season sire to have more than one winner.

The Kobus Roux-trained Fire ‘N Flames relished the step up from 800m to 1000m at the Vaal Classic track last Tuesday and waltzed in by four lengths under JP van der Merwe at odds of 5/2.

Then last Friday on the Fairview turf the Alan Greeff-trained Luna Halo converted odds of 33/20 on debut when powering in by 5,25 lengths under Richard Fourie, also over 1000m.

The freshman sire championship is decided on stakes.

The late Lancaster Bomber thus leads thanks to his Glen Kotzen-trained daughter Rascova, who won the R500,000 Listed City Of Cape Town Summer Juvenile Stakes over 1100m on WSB Met day.
