Luke Farraris scored a double at Happy Valley on Wednesday and Lyle Hewitson rode a winner to break the sequence of five meetings he had gone without one.

It is Ferraris’ second season on the island and only his third double, which shows just how competitive the racing is.

The horse he rode to clinch the double was the Pierre Ng-trained Klawervlei Stud-bred Vercingetorix gelding Super Commander, who is out of Captain Al mare War Path.

He was formerly trained by Vaughan Marshall and known as Fearless Warrior, who won twice in four starts as a juvenile and finished second in the Grade 3 Cape Of Good Hope Nursery.

Ferraris has won twice on Super Commander in Hong Kong.

Ferraris and Hewitson are both on nine winners for the season at respective strikes rates of 10.5% and 6.5% respectively.

Zac Purton, bidding for a sixth Hong Kong championship, is out on his own in front with 37 winners.

He is 21 clear of second-placed CY Ho, who is on 16.

Silvestre De Sousa is in third on 13.

Hewitson and Ferraris are in joint sixth place.
