Mount Anderson (Kelly Mitchley) will be defending his title in the R200 000 Betway Insurebet Friendly City Stakes on Friday at the Fairview Turf track.
A very strong field of 10 runners will line-up for this Non-Black Type event over 1800m at 15:40. It is race sixth on the card.
Last year’s runner-up and the East Cape reigning Champion Older Horse Grazinginthegrass (Alan Greeff) will also be in action.
The winner of the Listed East Cape Guineas, Perfection (Gavin Smith), will be seen for the first time this season and will have many supporters in what should be a thrilling affair.
National Champion Trainer Justin Snaith will be visiting from Cape Town with Warrior and Hoedspruit, the two horses with the highest merit ratings in the race.

Formguides And Selections From AT THE RACES (

1 12:45 PM – Betway Tote Rewards Club Maiden Plate

A competitive start to a nice card. SWISS WALT is improving and could be the one to beat. GREY SMOKE was an unlucky loser last time out and could be ready to win. RAPTOR ISLAND went far too quickly last time and will be ridden by a senior jockey this time so has a winning chance. MIDNIGHT ADVOCATOR is improving and should run well once again. BRIDGERTON is better than his last run would suggest and is capable of contesting the finish once again.
Watch out for: MIDNIGHT ADVOCATOR (2)
2 1:20 PM – Betway Boost Fm 86 Handicap (F & M)
A small field but we should get a competitive finish. Trainer Justin Snaith sends ZIPPY OVER who is in good form. The step up to 2000m is not a problem for her and she looks the one to be with. DEFINITELY MAYBE has been in very good heart of late and has won three times since June. Stable companion WILDEST DREAMS is better over further but is also not out of it. DAME OF FLAMES won two nice races on the Polytrack recently and clearly likes that surface. AERIAL VIEW will like it back on the turf and is not out of it.
Watch out for: DAME OF FLAMES (2)
1:55 PM – Betway Aviator Fm 70 Handicap (F & M)
Another competitive race. PUBLIC BENEFIT is improving and is seeking a hat-trick after some nice wins. This is her first run in a handicap. HEY SIRI is capable of earning some money. KEEP THE FORT showed improvement last time out and could contest the finish. Stable companions SUGARBERRY and ON THE GUEST LIST will both enjoy it on the turf and are not out of it. GLOBAL AVENUE quickened nicely to win her maiden last time out and has more to offer. CRAFTY HEART and TRIP TO BARBERTON are both in good form and hold winning hopes.
Watch out for: GLOBAL AVENUE (4)
2:30 PM – Betway We Pay Your Tax On Horse Racing Wins Maiden Plate (F & M)
ST CLOUD showed improvement when stepped up in distance last time but is also capable of winning over this distance after a change of trainer. DAWN OF GOLD has only been modest in three starts in the Western Cape but is likely to leave that form behind her at this centre. AMAZING COLOURS is very consistent without winning so far and should be right there at the finish once again. CELTIC VIXEN seems at her very best on turf and could earn some money. FIRE GLOW and LADY D’ARBANVILLE are also capable of improvement.
Top Tip: ST CLOUD (1)
Watch out for: DAWN OF GOLD (2)
3:05 PM – Betway Back The Boks Pinnacle Stakes (F & M)
HUNTING TRIP clearly did not show her best on the Polytrack last time out. She was in very good form before that and can bounce back to score. EKORIA is a good filly and sprinting is her game so she deserves some respect. CHERE FOR ME returned to her best to score last time out but this looks a tougher ask. BONNAROO flopped back on the grass last time but is clearly way better than that run would suggest. THREE ROCKS looks a very promising filly for the future and would not be a surprise winner.
Top Tip: EKORIA (1)
Watch out for: HUNTING TRIP (2)
6 3:40 PM – Betway Insurebet Friendly City Stakes
A cracking race. PERFECTION clearly found the East Cape Derby distance too far on the Polytrack but looked impressive before that and can bounce back to score if fit from a break. WARRIOR is weighted to win this easily on his best form but has been disappointing recently. Stable companion HOEDSPRUIT is in a similar situation and is also capable of winning. GRAZINGINTHEGRASS is very brave and will be trying to defend a run of very good wins. BUSH TRACKER has improved a lot of late and deserves respect.
Top Tip: WARRIOR (1)
Watch out for: HOEDSPRUIT (2)
7 4:15 PM – Betway Money Back Boost Fm 78 Handicap (F & M)
Trainer Alan Greeff has had a tough few weeks and JOY AND PEACE was a costly failure last time but should bounce back to score. She did not get a clear run and a change of jockey could return her to winning form. VIHZOE’S MAGIC flopped last week on the Polytrack but can improve back on the turf. TRIED AND TRUE ran well over this course and distance last time out and can contest the finish again. ACT NATURALLY and LILLIANA make their local debuts and can improve. MY AMI BEACH is in good form and is not out of it. ILHA DA MAURICIA is course-and-distance suited and should run well.
Top Tip: JOY AND PEACE (5)
Watch out for: LILLIANA (9)
8 4:50 PM – Betway Get Way More Mr 68 Handicap
CAPTAIN TIK TOK returned to his very best form with a solid win last time out, so it is a bit of a surprise he finds himself in the Eastern Cape. He can follow up if anywhere near his best. LORD NELSON was not disgraced when fourth last time and is not out of it. FIERY DUKE ran well last time and could contest the finish again. GUNSMOKE is much improved of late and is track-and-trip suited. PEDRO is better than the last run would suggest. IRONTAIL was too far back last time out and should do a lot better this time.

Watch out for: LORD NELSON (2)
