Sandy And Eugene Arundel were the leading buyers at last weekend’s Race Coast Sales two-year-old Sale, splashing out R 3,725,000 for 4 lots including R1.7 million for this good looking Erik The Red filly (Picture: Race Coast Sales)
Vercingetorix was once again the star of the Race Coast Sales afternoon/evening Two-year-old Sale at Hollywoodbets Durbanville last Saturday (24/11).
His eight lots fetched an aggregate of R6.5 million for an average of R812,500.
Some would have considered the Sale as disappointing with an aggregate of R38,290,000 being down from last year’s R45,925,000, the average down from R361,615 to R303,889, and the median down from R300,000 to R250,000.
However, the massive upturns that characterised some of the Sales in recent years must be taken into account and this was perhaps just a more realistic Sale.
On the other hand the notable absence of Varsfontein Stud from a Sale they had previously supported was also a contributing factor and hopefully they will return next year.
The highest price at this Sale was for Lot 3, an Erik The Red filly out of the Global View three-time winning Gr 3-runner up Kissing Point, who is a half-sister to Gr 1 Cape Guineas winner Kilindi and to the like of Gr 1-placed Guy Gibson and others.
She was vendored as agent by Soetendal Estate and has already been backed, which is the term for a horse who has been saddled and taught to accept a rider.
Sandy and Eugene Arundel purchased her for R1.7 million.
The next three highest prices were all progeny of Vercingetorix, going for R1.4 million, R1.3 million and R1.2 million respectively.
Jet Dark was responsible for the other two seven figure lots, both going for R1.1 million.
Maine Chance Farms vendored two of the seven figure Vercingetorix’s, both fillies, one of them bought by Hollywoodbets and the other by Peter Muscutt, while the seven figure Vercingetorix colt was vendored by Klawervlei Stud as agent and saw another big splash out by passionate racing couple Sandy and Eugene Arundel.
The Jet Dark seven figure filly was vendored by Soetendal as agent and was purchased by Glistian Events and the seven figure Jet Dark colt was vendored by Winterbach Stud as agent and purchased by Blinkered Bloodstock.
