Phenomenal Drakenstein Stud increased their number of individual stakes winners for the season to 13 after success at Fairview on Friday and at both Turffonten Standside and Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.

They won the Listed Lady’s Bracelet witb their homebred Candice Bass-Robinson-trained Gold Standard homebred Gold Poker Game under Gareth Wright at Fairview on Friday, the Listed Betway Wolf Power 1600 with the Sean Tarry-trained Silvano homebred filly Silver Hills under Serino Moodley at Turffontein Standside on Saturday and their luckless Glen Kotzen-trained homebred Gold Standard filly Hold My Hand finally won for the second time in her career when landing the Gr 3 Summer Fling Stakes over 2000m under Richard Fourie at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.

Gold Standard’s double was a boost to the legendary Birch Brothers Stud as he was relocated there at the beginning of the last breeding season.

Sean Tarry had a phenomenal second half of the season in 2022/2023 and perhaps gave a signal of things to come with his stakes double.

His other stakes winner was the Varsfontein Stud Gimmethegreenlight filly Let’s Go Now, owned by Kestorm Investments, who caused more frustration for Mauritzfontein Stud by denying their boom sire Danon Platina his first stakes winner in the Gr 3 Mother Russia Stakes over 1400m. The Mike de Kock-trained Danon Platina filly White Peal started odds on favourite and looked the winner under Gavin Lerena but was denied by the late charge S’Manga Khumalo extracted out of Let’s Go Now.
