De Melo’s win on the Brett Crawford-trained Hollywood Syndicate-owned Dynasty gelding Inside Story earned him a double (Picture: Wayne Marks).
Had Richard Fourie been able to predict this drought he might have done a bit more travelling because he had closed the gap to 27 wins and could have got even closer if he had not scored a blank himself on Monday.
De Melo’s two wins today were aboard the Adam Marcus-trained Greys Inn mare Jury Duty and the Brett Crawford-trained Dynasty gelding Inside Story.
He goes to 268 wins for the season and has done it at a strike rate of 19.53%.
He is now 28 clear of Fourie.
There are only 19 days left of the season so his lead is unassailable, but his chances of reaching 300 wins are gone.
De Melo will be riding in Hong Kong next season.
