Corinne Bestel (pictured above with the bouquet) was honoured at Hollywoodbets Greyville today having retired after 35 years in thoroughbred training.

The Clairwood and then Summerveld trainer is the daughter of the former top Durban-based trainer Eileen Bestel.

She started out as assistant to her mother.

She then took out her own license in 1994.

Corinne was particularly renowned for her horse care skills.

That reputation might not have done her too many favours in the long run because she would often be sent problematic horses.

Two of her biggest supporters were Georgie Buchanan (floral shirt) and Eric Buhr (standing behind her).
