The superstar three-year-old Trippi colt Charles Dickens will not race again this season.
Trainer Candice Bass-Robinson acknowledged this would be disappointing news for KZN racing fans before adding, “He had a tough three-year-old campaign in Cape Town and he has now achieved his mission in KZN by winning the Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge. I am not going to now ask him to run over 1800m (Champions Cup).”
She said he would have a deserved rest before preparing for next season’s Cape Summer Festival Of Racing.
The Drakenstein Stud-bred Trippi colt raced six times between September and February in Cape Town and has had two starts in KZN.
He has won six of those eight starts this season and finished second in the two others, which leaves him with a career record so far of eight wins and two seconds in ten starts.
His record this season included a three length win in the Gr 3 Cape Classic over 1400m, a 4,25 length win in the Gr 1 Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas, a neck second in the Gr 1 L’Ormarins King’s Plate, a 1,25 length second in the Gr 1 Splashout Cape Derby over 2000m, a two length win in the Gr 2 WSB Guineas and a 1,40 length victory in the Gr 1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge over 1600m.
Charles Dickens has earned R3,697,187 in stakes.
