A letter to thoroughbred breeders and interested parties about the syndication of the now three-time Gr 1 winner Charles Dickens was released this morning by Drakenstein Stud’s racing manager Kevin Sommerville.

The letter reads:

I had intended to make contact personally with all breeders but events have over taken me and the interested has been unprecedented in Charles Dickens.
We have decided to syndicate Charles Dickens following his scintillating win in South Africa’s most prestigious weight for age contest, the L’Ormarins King Plate, a race won by Champion Sires Gimmethegreenlight and Jet Master.  Charles Dickens will continue to race for Drakenstein Stud for the remainder of the 2024 season. The share price is R400,000 + Vat, each share will entitle you to 2 nominations per season for the first 4 seasons at stud.
The winner of 10 of his 13 races, unbeaten as a 2 year old, winner of the sire making Cape Guineas Gr.1 and Gold Challenge Gr.1, Charles Dickens has all the credentials to be the next Champion Sire of South Africa.  Crowned Champion 3yo and Champion Miler, he is by Champion Sire Trippi out of Broodmare of the Year Demanding Lady by Dynasty.  King Charles will be supported by Drakenstein Stud’s best and we would like to invite you to be part of this exciting journey.
The shares will be sold on a first come first service basis so please get back to me ASAP to secure your shares.
There will not be space for everyone but I will ensure you are on the list for a nomination if you miss out.
