Klawervlei Stud’s four-time G1 winning sire Twice Over is from one of the hottest families around. Not only do Twice Over’s relatives include the exciting, unbeaten Ombudsman, but they also include a hugely exciting prospect in the form of Cosmic Year.

Two-year-old Cosmic Year stamped himself a horse to watch when producing a breathtaking debut in the 7f novice stakes at Sandown on Wednesday.

The Kingman colt brushed aside odds-on favourite Rock d’Oro to win by six and a half lengths and the form looks red hot given the runner-up had finished a close second to the unbeaten Champagne Stakes winner Bay City Roller last time.

Paddy Power makes him a 33/1 chance for the 2025 QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. Sky Bet offers 20s for the Guineas and 25/1 for the Derby at Epsom.

Cosmic Year was duly named a TDN Rising Star following his breathtaking debut win.

Juddmonte’s Cosmic Year, an own-brother to G3 Prix Quincey/G3 Sovereign Stakes winner Tempest is a half-brother to the classy Time Test and son of G1-winning dam Passage Of Time.

Passage Of Time’s granddam Quandary also ranks as the second dam of Klawervlei’s high-class sire Twice Over.

Twice Over had an excellent season in 2023-2024, where his flagbearers included the now-retired G1 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met winner Double Superlative, G2 World Sports Betting Green Point Stakes hero See It Again and G2 Anthonij Rupert Wine Premier Trophy winner Mucho Dinero.
