PEDIGREE PROFILE -ONE WAY TRAFFIC
Sarah Whitelaw
There were few more impressive winners on Hollywoodbets Durban July day than One Way Traffic.
The Ridgemont Highlands bred gelding suggested he would not have been out of place in the July itself when running away with Saturday’s G3 Vodacom 2200.
One Way Traffic is certainly bred to be something well above average -with the son of Ridgemont Highlands’ late top sire Dynasty hailing from one of the best families in the stud book.
One Way Traffic, an R800 000 buy from the 2019 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, is one of 80 stakes winners for Dynasty, one of the best stallions to stand in South Africa who was never Champion Sire.
Himself a brilliant winner of the July back in 2003, Dynasty once again made his presence felt on July day this year. Not only is he the sire of the aforementioned One Way Traffic, Dynasty’s champion son Futura came up with Saturday’s Listed Compendium Insurance Brokers Handicap winner Xavion, while Dynasty daughters produced the first two home in Saturday’s G3 DSTV Gold Vase in the form of Black Thorn and Rex Union respectively.
Dynasty mare Sabaha also made her mark on Saturday with Sabaha’s daughter Ameena running out an impressive winner of the G2 Zulu Kingdom Explorer Golden Slipper.
One Way Traffic hails from an equally impressive female line. He is out of the Spectrum mare Careful Hiker, who won three times and ran third, to Equus Champion All Is Secret, in the G1 Thekwini Stakes of 2012.
Careful Hiker, whose sire Spectrum is also damsire of recent G3 WSB Pocket Power Stakes winner Winchester Mansion among many others, is one of eight winners produced by Listed Olympic Duel Stakes winner Our Table Mountain.
The latter, a Fusaichi Pegasus half-sister to G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile winner and successful sire Artie Schiller, was South Africa’s Broodmare Of The Year in 2015-2016. Our Table Mountain produced five black type horses notably G1 winners Cloth Of Cloud (SA Nursery) and Silver Mountain (G1 Cape Fillies Guineas).
Our Table Mountain, whose daughter Cloth Of Cloud was South Africa’s Champion 2YO Filly of 2015-2016, also produced Listed Aquanaut Handicap winner Wonderous Climber. As a son of Dynasty, Wonderous Climber ranks as a three-parts brother to One Way Traffic.
The impeccably bred Our Table Mountain, whose dam Hidden Light won both the G1 Santa Anita Oaks and G1 Hollywood Oaks, traces back directly in female line to the mighty Frizette -whose numerous top-class descendants include such breed shaping sires as Mr Prospector and Seattle Slew.
