Record-breaking Richard Fourie was honoured by staaff and patrons of his home course, Hollywoodbets Kenilworth, on Tuersday when given a Guard Of Honour between the weighing room and the parade ring.
He duly followed this immediately with yet another win, scoring on the Justin Snaith-trained 14/10 favourite In The Green Zone.
That was his 337th win of the season.
However, he was later stood down after the eighth race.
This means he missed today’s meeting at Hollywoodbets Greyville in terms of rule 25.12.
Fourie broke Anthony Delpech’s “safest South African record in sport” of 334 wins in a season, set in the 1998/1999 season, with more than seven weeks of the season still remaining.
If keeping up his current rides per day rate and strike rate for the season he is projected to finish the season on 389 wins.
However, his agent Ken Nicol has said he would likely “throttle down”, deservedly so.
