John Scott, born in 1794, and know as “The wizard of the North” trained the winners of 40 British classic races, including a record 16 St. Legers.
His British classics record was only broken this year when Tuesday gave Aidan O’Brien his 41st classic victory by winning the Epsom Oaks.
Bill Scott rode many of John Scott’s classic winners and his 19 British classic wins include a record nine St. Legers.
