Racing’s Archaic Measure Of Beaten Distance
In the old days race course judges did not have the luxury of modern technology to measure the beaten distance of the finishers in a race.
Hence the measurement of “length” was used.

Stonehill Selling Four By Their Exciting Royal Mo
One stallion who made a striking impression with his first runners last season was the impeccably bred Royal Mo, who was imported by Heinrich Rix of Stonehill Stud and who stands at Klawervlei Stud.
Himself a high-class son of outstanding sire Uncle Mo, Royal Mo was represented by just a handful of first crop runners in 2021-2022, but nonetheless more than made his mark.
Royal Mo ended last season as South Africa’s Leading Freshman Sire by percentage of winners to runners, with five of his first nine runners all winning.
Winner of the 2017 G3 Robert B. Lewis Stakes, Royal Mo also pulled off a notable feat when his sons Rule Of Thumb, Royal Port Louis and Matsuyamo finished first, second and third at Kenilworth in July.
Stonehill Stud will be offering four two-year-olds by this exciting young sire at this year’s August Two Year Old Sale.
The Stonehill foursome includes Mo King (Lot 1), a colt from the immediate family of champion South African sire Fort Wood, a filly (Lot 20) out of Listed East Cape Paddock Stakes winner Maverick Girl, and a filly (Lot 243) from the same family as international G1 winners Skitter Scatter, Soldier Of Fortune and Subjectivist, to name but three.
The Stonehill Stud quartet can be viewed in Block H at the TBA complex in Germiston.

Noble Style is unbeaten in two starts and represents the powerful Godolphin operation. He could well be up to this level but is taking a huge step up in class, while Marshman could be anything after winning his second start by eight and a half lengths last time.
