Shares to be sold in two exciting Captain Al stallions
Four stallion shares have become available, and they will be sold after the CTS Mare and Weanling Sale to be held at Kenilworth Racecourse on 24 June 2022. Three shares of Captain Of All, and one share of William Longsword, will come under the hammer. Both sires are by former star stallion Captain Al, one of the very few sire lines of Roberto still remaining.
Captain Of All (by Captain Al), the multiple G1 winner and Equus Champion Sprinter in 2014/15, was champion freshman sire in 2019. His line is a great out-cross to Northern Dancer and Mr Prospector. Captain Of All has proven, in just a few years, his ability to produce classic horses. He has already sired top sprinters and stayers, including Linebacker (G1 Cape Derby and G1 Daily News), G2 Fillies Nursery winner Springs Of Carmel, G2 Dingaans winner Shango, as well as Captain Lannister, Captain Ann Bonney, What You Are, and recently G1-placed, Captain Bombshell.
William Longsword has been stamping his progeny in exactly the same way Captain Al did. A G1 winner from a Graded-winning international family, he has enjoyed a good start to his stud career with lightly-raced Dyce (already a G2 winner), top quality up-and-coming sprinter Coin Spinner, consistent Listed performer Safe Return, and promising runners Voldemort, Pineapple Express, Hasta Manana, Bom Vivant and Remember When.

The stewards inquired into the incident noting Frankie Dettori’s explanation that the blind had got caught in the bridle, resulting in him taking a number of attempts to remove it.

Tough Introduction To Royal Ascot For Irad Ortiz Jr
Three-times Eclipse award winner for leading American jockey, Irad Ortiz Jr, finished last in his only ride on the first day of Royal Ascot and had a fourth place finish in the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes today but landed a suspension.
Ortiz was on the favourite in the Group 1 Kings Stand Stand Stakes yesterday, the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint winner Golden Pal (Uncle Mo).
Trainer Wesley Ward summed up the story, “Irad was looking back at the horse that wouldn’t load. He didn’t realise they scratch horses over here. He said he almost fell off.”
Ortiz rushed his mount through the field to try to gain his favoured prominent position and Golden Pal was right up with the pace by the 4f marker.
Those early exertions soon told though with the star four-year-old retreating sharply through the field with two furlongs to run. He ultimately finished last of the 16 runners beaten just over 20 lengths.
There was no such issue in the Group 2 Queen Mary today over five furlong as Love Reigns (US Navy Flag) broke quickly and took the advantage but was headed with a furlong to travel before being narrowly denied for third by Maria Branwell.
However, stewards suspended Ortiz for five days for careless riding after he was deemed to have allowed Love Reigns to drift left shortly after the start, forcing Katey Kontent to move from her intended line.
“She ran big,” said Ortiz. “She ran brilliantly. I was in a good position and when I asked her she kept responding. The winner was really good today and I just got beaten for third on the wire. The winner was much the best but Love Reigns gave a great performance.”
His afternoon did not get any better on when finishing 23rd of 24 runners on the Ward-trained Seismic Spirit in the Windsor Castle Stakes.
Ortiz has two more chances to get off the mark, beginning with Ruthin, who was seventh behind Chipotle in the Windsor Castle Stakes last year, in the Palace of Holyroodhouse Stakes on Friday.
He is then set to partner Campanelle, who won last year’s Commonwealth Cup under Dettori, in the Platinum Jubilee Stakes on Saturday.
Ortiz is fresh from winning his second Group 1 Belmont Stakes on Mo Donegal (Uncle Mo) last weekend.
Those two wins are in fact his only two American classic victories.
However, he has a vast list of major race wins and has had phenomenal success at the Breeders Cup.
He has won 14 Breeders Cup races.
His younger brother Jose has also won one Eclipse award for leading American rider.
The brothers hail from Puerto Rico.
Doubles For Domeyer And Snaith
Aldo Domeyer rode a double at Kenilworth today and goes to 84 winners for the season at 23.27%, which is the highest strike rate on the national log. Besides winning the CTS Farm Sale Race on the Justin Snaith-trained We’re Jamming, he also brought home the Candice Bass-Robinson-trained Silent War (Gimmethegreenlight) (pictured above – CTS). Justin Snaith also scored a double at the meeting and goes to 144 winners for the season at a strike rate of 12.95%.
Today’s Question
What is the record by a horse for the most wins at Royal Ascot meetings?
Picture: Queen Anne, after who the opening race of the Royal Ascot meeting, the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes, is named, identified the current Ascot racecourse venue as an ideal place “for horses to gallop at full stretch”. (ascot.com)

Today’s Question Answer
Brown Jack was both a crowd favourite at Royal Ascot and a household name of his time, though his background was highly unusual. After his win in the 1928 Champion Hurdle and following the recommendation of top flat jockey Steve Donoghue, Brown Jack’s trainer, the Hon. Aubrey Hastings, switched him to the flat. It was a decision that paid off handsomely. Donoghue rode the horse to victory in the 1928 Ascot Stakes and subsequently won six consecutive renewals of the Queen Alexandra Stakes between 1929 and 1934. It is inconceivable that any other horse will ever win at seven Royal Meetings.
