Top Class Racing On Sunday At HWB Greyville
Quickstepgal is one of the star attractions at Hollywoodbets Greyville’s meeting on Sunday
The Hollywoodbets Greyville turf meeting on Sunday is headed by the Non-Black Type Michaelmas Handicap and there is a plethora of good horses turning out in other races on the day.
In the Michaelmas Go Grayson Go relished the step up in trip to 2000m last time and won easily. He has always struck as being smart so can progress further off a 97 merit rating. Calvin Habib stays aboard but has to negotiate a tough draw of nine out of eleven.
Pioneer Square has to jump from draw eleven of eleven but this progressive Candice Dawson-trained Highveld raider is a front-runner with good gatespeed and early pace and can go close if able to get to the front under Rachel Venniker. The Querari gelding won his maiden by 7,5 lengths over 1800m and since then has run a neck second to the useful Don’t Cry For Me ver 1800m and then won over 1600m by 3,50 lengths when leading from start to finish at Turffontein Inside. Theoretically he should find it easier to get to the front over this longer 1900m trip.
Corrupt is 3kg under sufferance, but looks to have plenty of potential and over what should be an ideal trip this scopey sort could surprise carrying 52kg under Kabelo Matsunyane.
Stablemate Officer In Command sneaks into the handicap with the minimum weight after winning nicely last time at Hollywoodbets Scottsville over 1600m. He came into last year’s Michaelmas off two wins over 1500m and 1700m and then was not disgraced when finishing last of four in the Michaelmas but beaten only 2.05 lengths by the smart Madison Valley.
Shoot The Rapids would prefer further but should run well fresh as he has some class and Johnny The Thief is consistent and has to be respected.
In the fourth race over 1200m the exciting prospect Cognac has his second career outing. The Stuart Ferrie-trained Rafeef colt is well drawn and with his natural speed he should take a power of beating, even if it is not easy for an inexperienced horse to win off a 95 merit rating.
In the fifth race over 1200m Cats Pajamas, I Am Giant and Future Variety are drawn ten, nine and seven respectively so won’t have it easy but they look to be the ones to fight out this 1200m A Stakes race.
In the sixth race, a Progress Plate over 1400m, the classy De Kock-trained Whispering Death returns from a seven month layoff having impressed in three starts as a two-year-old which included a 2,25 length victory over subsequent Gr 2 winner Chronicle King. Bristol Hercules and Winter Games should be involved in the finish too.
In the seventh race, a Progress Plate over 1400m, the exciting Tienie Prinsloo-trained star Quickstepgal makes her reappearance. Interestingly the 4kg claimer Dezahn Louw is aboard, which should alleviate the 60,5kg burden she has to carry to some extent and she is the one to beat.
In the ninth race the De Kocks have another livewire in Buddy Boy, who should take a power of beating in this Class 4 race over 1600m running off a 90 merit rating, as he impressed in his maiden win over this trip in just his second career start.

Turffontein Inside Saturday Formguides And Selections
R1 4 STONE OF SCONE must have a good winning chance in this field, she ran a lovely race behind Alpha World on the 6th of September on the inside track at Turffontein, the compression mask and the ear muffs have been fitted for her race on Saturday, if she can beat the tricky draw, and she handles the step up in trip to 1450m, she can certainly go close to winning. 9 TOP SHELF TEDDY has been rested for 84 days, she improved nicely last time, she ran third behind Salt Lake City over 1400m on the 19th of July, she has a good draw on Saturday, and she is improving, if she doesn’t need the run badly, she will be right there in the finish. 2 DUCHESS OF PALOMA stayed on beautifully for third behind United Offer on the 30th of September at the Vaal, it was her first run on the highveld, she can only improve from that performance, include her into all bets now that she steps up in trip. 1 WINDS OF GRACE never runs a bad race, she is so consistent, from a good draw, she must have a good each way chance here. (Brandon Bailey: 4 – 9 – 2 – 1)

(Brandon Bailey: 3 – 4 – 10 – 9)
R3 6 GREEN MACHINE stayed on nicely for third on debut behind his stable companion One Eye On Vegas, even though he was well beaten at the line, he was green and stayed on strongly late, this doesn’t look to be a strong race on paper, if he has made the necessary improvement back at home, he will take lots of beating in this race. 9 TEXAS MISSILE ran in the same race as Green Machine on the 28th of September on the Inside Track at Turffontein, he finished fifth and was beaten just over eleven lengths at the line, he was also very green in running, the step up in trip to 1800m will help his chances. 3 ITSNOWORNEVER improved to run a much better race on the 30th of September in a work riders race at the Vaal, he ran second and was beaten just under nine lengths by Bellerophon, he is clearly improving, and he gets a good draw on Saturday, watch him closely at a decent price. 10 NOTHING COMPARES improved in a big way to run second behind Madame Pompadour on the 25th of September, if she can bring that performance to the races again, she will have a nice each way chance. (Brandon Bailey: 6 – 9 – 3 – 10)
R4 1 IT’S PERSONAL flashed up to run a great second behind Juniper Green on the 6th of September, he really took off late to run a super race, jockey Muzi Yeni gets the ride back on this gelding, from a good draw, he must have a big winning chance. 3 SUPER AWESOME won a terrific race last time, he fought them off to win by just under two lengths on the 28th of September on the Inside Track at Turffontein, he was given five points for that impressive victory, he drops in trip on Saturday, include him into all bets. 2 HEMISPHERE must have a solid each way chance, he ran fourth behind Juniper Green on the 6th of September, he is consistent and he gets a good draw, on his best form, he will trouble them all in the finish. 5 RED PENNY improved to run a better race behind The Last Duke on the 28th of September, he ran third and was beaten two lengths at the line by his stable companion, if he can bring that performance to the races again, he will certainly be amongst the places. (Brandon Bailey: 1 – 3 – 2 – 5)
R5 6 MATCHA MINT powered away from the field to win her maiden impressively on the 17th of August, she travelled well in her race, and she gave a good kick to win by just over five lengths, Jockey Muzi Yeni sticks with this filly, from a good draw, she can easily win again, she is definitely improving. 3 DYLAN’S CHAMP has run two great races in succession, he ran second last time behind Oklahoma Twister on the 25th of September at the Vaal, he is in good form, and he has a good draw, he will be right there in the finish. 1 BLOOMINGTON has dropped even further in the ratings, he ran fifth behind Super Awesome on the Inside Track at Turffontein on the 28th of September, on his best form, from a neat draw on Saturday, he could trouble them all. 7 SHEETS AND GOGGLES is much better than her recent run behind Oklahoma Twister on the 25th of September, if she settles early, she will be staying on strongly late, include her into all bets. (Brandon Bailey: 6 – 3 – 1 – 7)
R6 1 UNITED COUNCIL stays all day, she is as honest as they come, and she tries hard, she ran third in her last start behind Mo Ment on the 20th of September, Jockey Muzi Yeni knows this mare well, even though she carries top weight for this race, she will have a good winning chance from a neat draw. 2 COCOMELON needed her last run back from a small break, she ran a fair race behind Count Huhtikuu on the 20th of September, she finished just over three lengths behind the winner, if she can build on that performance, she will go close to winning. 6 LAVA LAMP won impressively at the Vaal on the 25th of September, she has been in great form of late, even though she will need a career best to win again, she is improving and she has no weight on her back, she could certainly lead them from start to finish. 4 TEO TORRIATTE stayed on powerfully for second behind Mo Ment on the 20th of September, there is no doubt that she stays well, if she gets the right run in transit here, she will be dangerous, include her into all bets. (Brandon Bailey: 1 – 2 – 6 – 4)
R7 2 CHRONICLE KING has been rested for 76 days, he ran a cracker in the Grade 1 Premiers Champion Stakes at Hollywoodbets Greyville on the 27th of July, he stayed on strongly for third behind Jan Van Goyen, he is a very smart colt with lots of ability, if he doesn’t need the run badly on Saturday, he will take lots of beating. 6 KING HARALD has been rested for 76 days, he finished like a train for fourth in the same race as Chronicle King last time, he was drawn poorly in the Grade 1, and he powered home to finish just under five lengths behind Jan Van Goyen, he is packed with class, even though he is drawn badly here, he will be flying at them late, watch him closely. 3 ECHO CHECK has done absolutely nothing wrong to date, he is unbeaten, he won a great race at the Vaal on the 18th of September, the yard thinks highly of this gelding, from a neat draw, he will be competitive. 8 TRUST quickened up in devastating fashion to win his maiden in good style on the 6th of September, he could be anything, he will love the step up in trip to 1450m. (Brandon Bailey: 2 – 6 – 3 – 8)
R8 6 ROAMING SPIRIT won impressively on the Inside Track last time, she powered away from the field to win by just under two lengths, she was given five points for that victory, with no weight on her back here, she could easily win again. 7 FULLY LOADED must have a solid each way chance, he ran a great race behind Super Awesome on the 28th of September, he finished fast for third and was only beaten just over two lengths at the line, he drops in trip, and he gets a good draw with no weight on his back, he will be right there in the finish. 4 PENNSYLVANIA ran second behind Bjorn Ironside on the 20th of September, it was a super run from this improving gelding, he is very fast, include him into all bets. 1 COSMIC STAR could be the value horse in this race, he has dropped in the ratings, and he gets a good draw for this Middle Stakes race on Saturday, he finished six lengths behind Quantum Theory last time, if he can build on that, he could have a nice place chance. (Brandon Bailey: 6 – 7 – 4 – 1)
R9 3 PHALA MILLIONS stayed on strongly for second behind Daring Act at the Vaal on the 25th of September, he showed good speed on that occasion, and he fought hard all the way to the line, he has a good draw in this race on Saturday, if he gets the right run in transit, he will be competitive. 1 BEAMONESQUE must be respected in this race, he ran fourth behind Hong Kong last time, he was only beaten just over three lengths in that race, even though he carries a big weight on Saturday, he can certainly win from a good draw. 7 ACROSS THE BOW won well at the Vaal on the 11th of September, he was given two points for that win, the wide draw here will make life tough for him, but he will be running on strongly, watch him late. 10 SAHARA DAWN ran a much better race behind Misty Metal on the 6th of September, she ran third and was beaten three lengths at the line, she has a good draw here and she has no weight on her back, she might be able to sneak into the places. (Brandon Bailey: 3 – 1 – 7 – 10)

Hollywoodbets Greyville Sunday Formguides And Selections
R1 Summary: Many first timers so keep an eye on the betting. Of those that have run, THE MARQUEE (8) made a smart debut starting at odds of 100-1. A repeat can see him go one better. Favourite for that race was JOHNNY BOY (13) who finished six lengths back. He has a wide draw but is back over the course where he made a promising debut. EASTERN HIGHLANDS (1) was a touch disappointing when trying a furlong further in the soft. He made a useful debut over course and distance and has the best of the draw. Of the first timers PLACE OF PRACTICE (3) and CHRISTMAS CACTUS (2) make some appeal. (Andrew Harrison: 8-13-1-3).
R2 Summary: CHEERSCHEERSCHEERS (13) was a close-up third last run at just his second start. He gets first time blinkers which could see him home. GREEN GLOW (9) was a distant second on debut but should come on from that effort. MOUNT KENNEDY (11) was not far back when making his debut over 1400m. Gareth van Zyl has stepped him up in trip with first time blinkers. LIGHT THE FIRE (12) has put in three decent sprints. Gary Rich has jumped him up in trip and is one to watch in the betting. (Andrew Harrison: 13-9-12-11).
R3 Summary: Wide open. SAINT BRIGID (2) has only had one local outing and was not far back from a wide draw. She is up in class but has a light weight and should come on from her last outing. GREENHOUSE (9) has been knocking on the door for some time now. She goes well this trip and is due a change of fortune. ACACIA’S BLOSSOM (10) has dropped three points in the ratings and is 1kg better off with Greenhouse on their last meeting so there should not be much between them. PROM QUEEN (11) has the widest draw but has been consistent of ate and has a good money chance. (Andrew Harrison: 2-9-10-11).
R4 Summary: COGNAC (4) was an impressive winner on debut and looks to have plenty of scope for improvement. CIRCUMBENDIBUS (7) has shown up well in two local starts and takes the turn for the first time. LUNELUCK (1) is lightly raced but has been showing steady recent improvement and looks ripe. INTREPID (6) has smart form on the poly but also goes well on the turf. He gets a 4kg claimer up and is not out of it. (Andrew Harrison: 4-7-1-6).
R5 Summary: Smart line-up but many returning from a break. Not and easy race. CATS PAJAMAS (10) is returning from a break but is best in at the weights given his rating. Frank Robinson can get them fit first time out. AFRICAN SKYLINE (1) gets blinkers again and has bottom weight from the best of the draw. O’TENIKWA (6) is never far back and is fairly well treated at the weights. There should be little between FUTURE VARIETY (7) and I AM GIANT (9) both returning from short breaks. (Andrew Harrison: 10-1-6-7).
R6 Summary: WHISPERING DEATH (2) makes his long awaited reappearance after showing smart juvenile form. If he has trained on he will be hard to beat. ON MY HONOUR (8) will prefer it a lot further but is smart and his class can pull him through. ACTOR (7) has shown up well at his last two but has more to do here. BRISTOL HERCULES (5) is never far back and has a strong money chance. (Andrew Harrison: 2-8-7-5).
R7 Summary: QUICKSTEPGAL (6) makes her seasonal debut but is top class. She gets a 4kg claimer aboard and if ready will be hard to beat. WARRIOR ROYALE (3) seemed to be short of a run last start and should come on from that effort. LADYOFDISTINCTION (5) has a touch of class but has not been out since November last year. She might need this. ONE PATH (7) is lightly raced but can finish in the money. (Andrew Harrison: 6-3-5-7).
R8 Summary: Tricky handicap with many looking for further. OFFICER IN COMMAND (7) has joint bottom weight but was scratched from Tuesday’s meeting with stipes permission probably with this race in mind. Candice Dawson makes a raid from the Highveld with PIONEER SQUARE (11). He is a lightly raced gelding but won well last time out and can go close in a field of this nature. FIELD MARSHAL (2) will prefer further but does have a touch of class. JOHNNY THE THIEF (4) is holding form well and his last win was over course and distance. GO GRAYSON GO (9) enjoyed the extra last run and can follow up. (Andrew Harrison: 7-11-2-9).
R9 Summary: BUDDY BOY (2) stepped up to a mile after making a promising sprint debut, simply romped home. That sprint form has held up well so he looks to be a colt with more to come. KANAAL SKATER (7) showed up well first run out of the maidens. He steps up to a mile for the first time and he should enjoy the extra. TURBO TWENTY (10) won well in his local debut after coming off a Cape win. He appears to have come to hand. MOHAVE PRINCE (5) was not far back in his handicap debut. (Andrew Harrison: 2-7-10-5).
R10 Summary: GOTTA GO EDDIE (1) has not missed a cheque in six starts. He goes well this trip and has the best of the draw. LUCKY DOLLAR (11) has drawn wide but is in good form and he will prefer this trip. KIMBAL O’HARA (2) is never far back over shorter but he may now prefer this trip. One to watch in the market. MASTER DU ROUVRAY (10) was a recent maiden winner but has had his issues and can still improve. (Andrew Harrison: 1-11-2-10).
Astronomical Returns At Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1
Lot 90, a Sea The Stars colt, was the highest priced yearling in the world this year at 3.7m guineas (Picture: Tattersalls)
At the conclusion of Book 1 of the 2025 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented;
“Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale consistently showcases the finest British, Irish, French and German bred yearlings to a global audience and this year’s renewal has been no exception. Longview Stud’s Sea The Stars colt out of Crystal Zvezda and Newsells Park Stud’s Frankel colt out of Aljazzi, which realised 3,700,000 guineas and 3,600,000 guineas respectively, are the two highest priced yearlings in the world this year.
“A remarkable 70 lots have sold for 500,000 guineas or more as we have welcomed buyers from throughout the world to Park Paddocks. As ever, the support from the Gulf region has been a feature as has the large number of American buyers who have purchased more than 40 yearlings.
“Last year’s renewal of Europe’s premier yearling sale was widely regarded as one of the more remarkable sales of recent years, bucking the trend of earlier yearling sales that autumn with wide margin increases in all the key metrics. Those results saw the bloodstock market take a significant upturn over the last twelve months and whilst a drop in average and median were to be expected with the larger catalogue, it has been gratifying to return figures that are second only to last year’s record renewal.
“We now turn our attention to Books 2 and 3 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale which begins on Monday, 13th October.”

Manxman Can Make Amends In The Cesarewitch
The Cesarewitch takes place at Newmarket on Saturday (Picture: Sky Sports Racing)
Newmarket UK Saturday Formguides And Selections
1 2:15 PM SA Time – Too Darn Hot Darley Stakes (Group 3)
Three-year-olds have a fine recent record in this and DAMYSUS gets the nod with that in mind. Thrust into the Derby having finished second in the Dante prior, things didn’t go to plan and he was given some time to recover. The Frankel colt returned to score in comfortable fashion at Deauville in August, though, and any further improvement ought to see him go very close. Gladius was far from disgraced in the Strensall last time out and is another open to considerable progress. First Conquest heads the remainder.
Top Tip: Damysus (4)
Watch out for: Gladius (5)
2 2:50 PM SA Time – Night Of Thunder Zetland Stakes (Group 3)
Charlie Appleby didn’t have a representative in this 12 months ago, but he won the three previous renewals so Look To The Stars and Del Maro must be respected. William Buick opts to ride the former, which could be telling, but SPYCE is preferred. Second in the typically warm Convivial Maiden at York before going one place better at Yarmouth, pedigree suggests he could be even better over this longer trip. A comfortable winner at Tipperary latest, Endorsement must enter calculations too.
Top Tip: Spyce (8)
Watch out for: Look To The Stars (4)
3 3:25 PM SA Time – Emirates Autumn Stakes (Group 3)
It’s hard to form a strong opinion given that each of these has the potential to improve significantly, but AL ZANATI shades the verdict. The son of Dubawi narrowly prevailed on the July Course when making his debut, beating a rival who has since gone on to fill the runner-up spot in the Goffs Million at the Curragh. He’s still entered in the Futurity Trophy, a target that could be well within his grasp if landing the spoils here. A step up in trip ought to suit Hankelow, who was touched off in the Flying Scotsman at Doncaster. New Zealand could fare best of the O’Brien pair.
Top Tip: Al Zanati (1)
Watch out for: Hankelow (4)
4 4:00 PM SA Time – Darley Dewhurst Stakes (Group 1)
The value may lie with OXAGON, whose runner-up effort in the Champagne at Doncaster has been well franked by the first and third going on to score at ParisLongchamp last weekend, including at Group One level. An easy winner at Sandown before that, the son of Frankel should be able to handle the undulations of the Rowley Mile, with Gstaad put forward as the primary threat following another close-run thing at the top level last month. Aidan O’Brien’s colt is taken to overturn that National Stakes form with the highly progressive Zavateri, while Distant Storm improved from his Acomb third to score impressively over C&D and is another to consider.
Top Tip: Oxagon (6)
Watch out for: Gstaad (4)
5 4:40 PM SA Time – Club Godolphin Cesarewitch Handicap (Heritage Handicap) (GBBPlus Race)
An eyecatcher when staying on well for third through heavy ground at Goodwood, MANXMAN could be primed to go one better than he did when pipped by Alphonse Le Grande in this prestigious handicap last year. The son of Cracksman is 8lb higher, but he has the benefit of Jack Callan’s 5lb claim. A similar type to his 2022 Cesarewitch winner Run For Oscar, Charles Byrnes’ recent C&D scorer Reverend Hubert must enter calculations under a 4lb penalty, along with Bunting, who looks the pick of the Willie Mullins battalion after a creditable fifth in a valuable handicap at Leopardstown. Others to note include Beylerbeyi, Dawn Rising and Divine Comedy.
Top Tip: Manxman (7)
Watch out for: Reverend Hubert (16)
6 5:15 PM SA Time – Godolphin Flying Start Nursery
Blue To Blue has improved significantly on his last couple of appearances, completing a double when scoring at Haydock. He can feature again, despite a 7lb rise, but a chance is taken on WEDONTTELLLIES. The son of No Nay Never picked up nicely to win a novice event at Kempton in fine style and Richard Hughes’ charge could prove better than his opening mark on his nursery debut. Pacifica Pier can’t be ruled out either if bouncing back from a disappointing effort at Doncaster.
Top Tip: Wedonttelllies (4)
Watch out for: Blue To Blue (3)
7 5:50 PM SA Time – Modern Games British EBF Boadicea Stakes (Fillies’ And Mares’ Listed)
CELANDINE makes plenty of appeal returning to 6f. She found life tough in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York last time, but the Kingman filly was beaten only a nose over today’s trip in Listed company before that and has a leading chance on these terms. Hold A Dream has placed at this level on more than one occasion and can make her presence felt, while Alfa Kellenic could prove best of the older horses with underfoot conditions back in her favour.
Top Tip: Celandine (6)
Watch out for: Hold A Dream (8)
