Excitement is building up in the Cape ahead of next Saturday’s R2-million Cape Town Met, presented by World Sports Betting, with three other Grade 1 races on the card.

However, it’s back to more mundane stuff on Sunday when Kenilworth stages a competitive card with a number of unraced horses lining up in the early races.

There are some well-bred runners in the mix so watch them carefully as there could be some future champions in action on this eight-race card.

There are some positive comments coming from many trainers so keep an eye on the betting for any significant betting moves.

It is not easy to find bankers on this card but it could be worth weighing in with Keagan de Melo and Dean Kannemeyer in Race 8, a MR 76 Handicap over 1600m, where they team up with Mr Master Starter.

This three-year-old son of Master Of My Fate started of his career with two successive victories and followed up with another two decent efforts, both over 1600m. His penultimate start saw him produce a good finish to run on into a 2.80-length fourth behind Pacaya, a horse Justin Snaith thought good enough to contest the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate.

Mr Master Starter next ran in the Grade 1 Cape Guineas but suffered massive interference and never got into the race.

He takes a massive drop in class and if one draws a line through his last run, he could take a power of beating in this company.

She’s My Captain (now SCRATCHED) could provide value for runners in Race 4, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1200m.

She has run fourth, third and finished second twice in her last four starts and a return to 1200m should suit her as she was slightly disappointing over 1000m last time.

Richard Fourie takes the ride for the first time on this filly, who is trained by father and daughter partnership of Harold Crawford and Michelle Rix.
