The Dean Kannemeyer yard have a strong hand in the Grade 2 WSB Guineas tomorrow at Hollywoodbets Greyville with Cosmic Highway (Gimmethegreenlight) and Waterberry Lane (Soft Falling Rain) and also have a lively candidate in the Grade 2 IOS Drill Hall Stakes over 1400m with former Grade 1 Cape Guineas winner Russian Rock (Pomodoro).
Kannemeyer’s Summerveld assistant trainer Nicolette Roscoe spoke about their well-being at Summerveld this morning.
“Both horses (Cosmic Highway and Waterberry Lane) are doing very well at home and got two nice draws but It’s a very competitive field. They have done nothing wrong at home here. There work has gone according to plan. Cosmic Highway hasn’t run since February but his work has been nice and he’s had two gallops on the grass. We’re happy with the way he’s going and he’s got pole position. The draw definitely helps. Waterberry Lane had a good win last time out. He’s come through it nicely. He’s done very well since being gelded and he’s definitely come on from that last run. We’re expecting two nice runs. It’s hard to split them and like I say it’s very competitive and it’s going to be the best horse on the day.”
Keagan de Melo is contracted to Khaya Stables so stays aboard Cosmic Highway.
National champion jockey elect Warren Kennedy is on Waterberry Lane.
Nicolette said about Russian Rock.
“He’s also got a nice draw, draw three. It’s also a very competitive field, some top horses are there. They will go a good pace hopefully which will suit him because he is a horse who has quirks and pulls a bit. Hopefully he is able to settle behind a quick pace and run on nicely. He hasn’t run since Cape Town but his work at home has been going fine.”
