Talented jockey Grant van Niekerk rode five successive winners at Kenilworth yesterday.
His roll started in the third race on the Justin Snaith-trained Distinction (Gimmethegreenlight).
He then rode the Jackpot on the Snaith-trained Kapunizer (Vercingetorix), the Snaith-trained Quickstep (The United States), the Andre Nel-trained Double Charge (Twice Over) and the Nel-trained Academic Gold (Vercingetorix).
Van Niekerk thus stood to become the second jockey in history to ride the Pick 6 after Piere Strydom, who did it in a meeting at Gosforth Park on 14 July, 1990.
Alas, his Nel-trained mount Axl (What A Winter), despite being backed into 33/10 favourite, ran unplaced in the 1400m contest.
