Punters face a tricky card on the poly at Hollywoodbets Greyville today but as the saying goes, where there is uncertainty there is opportunity. The Greyville Convention Centre Handicap headlines the card and although only six runners due to face the starter, most are in with chances.

Fight Song has been priced up early favourite by World Sports Betting with 16-10 on offer on Wednesday morning and he ran a cracker in the Michael Roberts Handicap at Hollywoodbets Scottsville going down narrowly behind Gentleman’s Wager from a tricky draw.

He was running on strongly from a long way back and has been in mustard form of late.

He has the best of the draw today and two of his three wins have come on the synthetic surface so has plenty going for him.

In contrast, Spring Fling ran a shocker in the Michael Roberts after back-to-back wins with no official explanation offered except that the going was posted as yielding that day which may have been the reason for his well below par performance. His most recent win was on the poly and he is re-united with his winning jockey. One can expect a much better performance here and one that could see the tables turned on Fight Song.

Stable companion Magical Midlands capped a disappointing Michael Roberts for John Buckler, KZN assistant to Glen Kotzen. He showed early pace before folding, the going also a possible factor. However, his poly form is excellent so his last run on the turf from a poor draw is best ignored.

In the first is a qualified maiden over 1200m and not a race to plunge on. Grey View has been well beaten into third at his last two but is well in at the weights and should be the one to beat.  Tienie Prinsloo appears to have picked the right race for Bold Premier. He was rushed up from a wide draw last start and never recovered. That run is best ignored and he should do better here.

The second, a maiden over 1400m, could develop into a three-way contest.

Giambattista has yet to finish out of the money in four starts. He was narrowly beaten last run and has done well on the poly. Beechurst is lightly raced and made a promising poly debut in his first local start while Exceed Expectation was not too far back in his local debut and has some fair Cape form to back his claims. He makes his poly debut.

Head Gardner in the third could prove to be one of the better bets on the card. He was  much improved in blinkers last start and has been unlucky before. This looks to be the right race. Stateofusa and Duke Of Orange look threats. Stateofusa is better than his last effort and has done well on the poly while Duke Of Orange ran well below ability last start but steps up to what could be a more suitable trip.

Heartease heads the boards for the fourth. Dean Kannemeyer’s filly is due a change of fortune and although she carries top weight, she has a decent draw and shows consistent form on the poly. Isla Morada has done well from two wide draws at recent outings and stays the trip. An upset could come in the form of Consol Queen. Tony Nassif has a knack of raiding with horse with seemingly limited ability and winning at long odds. Consol Queen has not won a race in over a year but the switch to the poly can see her make the required improvement. Chelsea Flower has been consistent since her maiden win but does look held by Heartease on their last meeting.

The fifth looks wide open and the bookies concur with four horses pretty much bracketed at the top of the boards. Name Of The Game was consistent leading to her maiden win and followed up with a smart handicap debut. Port Adelaide also showed up well in her handicap debut but does take on stronger while stable companion Que For You is the marginal favourite and seldom runs a bad race. She has a light weight and a champion jockey to help her cause. Fourth in the quartet is Rise (SCRATCHED) who won well when switching to the poly last start.

The last two races are likely to be a bun fight.

In the seventh, Irish Belle is quick and over her best course and distance. She had a tough draw last start and can turn the tables on Wishful Girl Linn who is also something of a poly specialist. Also back on her best surface is Lady Legend and her last run on the turf may be best ignored. Magicalee is at long odds but is showing signs of coming to hand. She is quick and has a light weight.

It’s 4-1 the field in the last, with six horses 6-1 and shorter. Cape Eagle is the marginal favourite after showing up well first run back after his maiden win and a rest. He is lightly raced but looks to have scope for further improvement. Two Of Us was a beaten favourite last run and has been consistent of late. He should be right there. Parktown is difficult even on a good day but he is talented and if putting his mind to it he can follow up on his recent success while Brazil Nut has been holding form and goes well this trip.
