Jack Milner: There appear to be some decent bets early on Wednesday’s Scottsville card and punters could start off by building up a kitty for the later races which look far more competitive.
Only Hearts can get bettors out of the blocks quickly in Race 1, a Maiden Juvenile Plate for fillies over 1200m.
This Querari filly was all the rage after a promising debut but had everything go wrong second time out, and yet still almost managed to get there. Her turn of foot was impressive, given that she had hurt herself earlier, and she also raced with a slipped saddle.
The Mike Miller-trained filly has been beaten in total just 0.50 lengths in her two runs, both of which were at Scottsville, so we know she enjoys the track. She has raced over 800m and 1000m and on pedigree and running style should thoroughly appreciate the step up in trip. Serino Moodley takes the ride once again.
The only concern is that she will jump from barrier No 13 but the outside draws do not seem too bad and many of the horses tend to move towards the centre, in any case.
There is also a lot to like about Fearless Kitty in Race 4, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1750m.
Glen Kotzen’s charge has finished runner-up in her last three starts and looks ready to go one better.
She produced the fastest 400m to finish in her last start over 1600m on the Polytrack and being by Duke Of Marmalade should benefit from the increase in distance this time.
He penultimate start was at Scottsville in which she finished a 0.70-length second to Snow Tune and on that occasion had Tempelhoff almost one length behind her.
