Former Summerveld-based Summer Cup-winning trainer Dylan Cunha has made a good start to his career at racing headquarters, Newmarket.

He managed to purchase a horse in training and this four-year-old gelding by Ajaya called Mr Fayez gave his yard their first runner.

He is owned by Dylan himself.

The Irish-bred arrived in his yard with uninspiring form having had one second in five starts in Ireland and one fourth in three starts in England.

The horse’s previous trainers were Miss Natalia Lupini and Jane Chapple-Hyam.

He has now had four starts for Cunha and ran fifth over six furlongs on the all weather at Chelmsford, then fourth over seven furlongs at Brighton, then third over seven furlongs at Lingfield and then on Tuesday in a class 6 event over six furlongs at Brighton he started 100/30 second favourite in  a seven horse field and ran a 1,75 lengtth second.

Dyland said, “We only paid £2k for him at the sales which you don’t really see here. Horses are way more expensive. His runs for us have all been within 4 weeks. He will probably run twice over the next 10 days. We’ve worked hard on him and have found the key to getting him to run well and keep him happy.”

He continued, “We have two 2 year olds about 2 months away from a run and that’s it. We could do with more support and a few more horses but I’ve never been so hands on or worked so hard and I couldn’t be happier with our start in the UK. We are playing with the biggest boys around and holding our own with what we’ve got. I don’t think there are many yards around that their last 4 runners have all earned prize money and we only have the 1 horse racing.”

“I’m loving Newmarket, the racing, being here and can’t wait until we get a little support and a few horses to get more competitive with. Watch this space.. we are giving it 200%.”
