1ST RACE OFF AT 12H50

R1 – Welcome To Cape Racing Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies)

PUCALLPA (10) made her debut in a feature race for two-year-old fillies over a similar trip and caught the eye with a fast-finishing third. She ought to have improved since and should find this an easier task, so can be followed with confidence. FIELDS OF GREEN (5), LA MAS BELLA (7), LEADING PARTY (8) and STAR IN WINTER (12) are all likely to improve with experience and, as such, could pose a threat. Well-bred newcomers BUSY LIZZIE (1) and CHE VINCERA (2) are worth a market check – respect any betting support.

Top Tip: CHE VINCERA (2)
Watch out for: LA MAS BELLA (7)

R2 – tabonline.co.za Maiden Juvenile Plate

WECANGOALLNIGHT (10) ran on to finish second, ahead of winners, in a feature for juveniles over a similar trip last time and should play a leading role with further improvement. PAS DE NOM (9) has a bit to find with the selection on that form but is drawn inside of him. Likely to improve, he is capable of posing a threat. ITSRAININGWILLIAM (4) was outrun late on debut having shown early pace. He would’ve come on for the outing so should be competitive but won’t be aided by a wide draw. ERRORE (2), LAST STORM (5) and LORD WILLIAM (8) are newcomers to note – watch the betting.

Top Tip: FURIE NOCTURNE (3)
Watch out for: ITSRAININGWILLIAM (4)

R3 Maiden Juvenile Plate

CHARLIE MALONE (3) boasts the strongest form of the raced runners and, as such, represents a possible Pick 6 banker. WYAG (10), KAPUZINER (6) and LOCKHEEDLIGHTNING (7) are all held on that form but could improve with experience to make their presence felt. Querari colts TOUGH TERRAIN (9) and AT MY COMMAND (2) could pose a bigger threat. If the market speaks in their favour, respect.

Top Tip: ALMAS TOWER (1)
Watch out for: AT MY COMMAND (2)

R4 – Computaform Online Maiden Handicap (F & M)

WAYWARD GIRL (1) improved stepping up in trip with blinkers last time and need only build on that to open her account in a shallow race, despite top weight. ANYWHICHWAY (2) was returning from a break when staying on to finish a creditable third over 1200m and should be competitive over the extra with improved fitness. PARISIENNE GIRL (4) was improving before a rest but had a habit of starting slowly. She may have overcome that issue and improved during her time off, so is likely to play a role. BLUE EYED GIRL (3) could get into the picture too.

Top Tip: WAYWARD GIRL (1)
Watch out for: ANYWHICHWAY (2)

R5 – Racehorse Owners Association Mr 75 Handicap

A case can be made for most of these. THEFUTUREISBRIGHT (1) would’ve tightened up since his last start and should have more to offer. Stablemate VAN HUNKS (2) is maturing and open to improvement on his return from a break during which he would have strengthened. SERVICE ACE (4) and SILENT TRIGGER (7) boast solid post-maiden form and are likely to make their presence felt. Both MILLAHUE (3) and GENTLEMAN JOE (5) are capable of better than their handicap debuts suggest. Last-start winners POMODORO’S JET (6) and LINE OF DUTY (9) are promising young colts. Both should improve for the step up in trip.

Top Tip: THEFUTUREISBRIGHT (1)
Watch out for: VAN HUNKS (2)

R6 – Racing240 Mr 78 Handicap

Tricky. LET IT BURN (1) is consistent, distance suited and on the up, so sets the standard. I WANT IT ALL (3) finished ahead of that rival when returning from a break and is weighted to confirm that form. SECRET OASIS (4) could be hard to peg back from gate 1 and should give another good sight. Last-start conqueror POLICY TARGET (8) goes well with blinkers fitted and is likely to acquit himself competitively once more. BLIZZARD (6) and CAPTIVE MOON (7) are improving three-year-olds who should have more to offer stepping up in trip.

Top Tip: LET IT BURN (1)
Watch out for: I WANT IT ALL (3)

R7 – thisisracing Fm 73 Handicap (F & M)

BELLE ROUGE (1) may have won a work riders’ race to open her account but wasn’t doing so out of turn and should make further improvement – leading contender. Stablemate ACADEMIC GOLD (2) is usually consistent but may need the outing after a lengthy layoff, although the booking of in-form Richard Fourie is encouraging. SUPER SIRI (4) and LITTLE DOE (6) have found form lowered in the ratings and should be competitive off their current marks. L’AMI JEAN (5), FLY TO RIO (7) and MAGICAL JAVA (8) are capable of getting into the picture.

Top Tip: BELLE ROUGE (1)
Watch out for: ACADEMIC GOLD (2)

R8 – Next Meeting 29 March Durbanville Mr 80 Handicap

Several with chances in this big field. SOLAR POWER (5) has won once and finished second three times from four starts over this distance. He’s still maturing and likely to improve – the one to beat. SUGAR MOUNTAIN (8) has won twice over this distance from his last three starts and, still on the up, could fight it out. TOUT A FAIT (9) wasn’t beaten far last time despite excuses and could be hard to peg back with a trouble-free lead. FORT RED (10) is distance suited and proven at this level, so can make his presence felt. PATH OF CHOICE (4) and WINCHESTER MANSION (3) have claims too.

Top Tip: WINCHESTER MANSION (3)
Watch out for: SOLAR POWER (5)
