Eight On Eighteen gets up to win the Langerman under Richard Fourie after running on strongly from last (Picture: Wayne Marks)

Drakenstein have smashed the individual stakes winners in a season record for the third season in succession.

When the Justin Snaith-trained two-year-old Lancaster Bomber colt Eight On Eighteen ran on strongly from last to win the storied Gr 3 Langerman over 1500m at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday it was a 21st individual stakes winner of the season for the reigning Champion Breeders (and reigning Champion Owners).

Eight On Eighteen provided yet another stakes winner for Nick Jonsson, who owns Eight On Eighteen together with Anyasec (Pty) Ltd.

The 21 individual stakes winners Drakenstein have had this season so far bettered the 20 they had last season and the 18 they had the season before.

The 18 stakes winners they had in the 2021/2022 season won 25 races between them, the 20 last season won 35 braces between them and the 21 they have had this season have so far won 30 races between them.

The stud is also on the cusp of being involved in another record for the season as the stallion that stands on their far, One World, has equalled the number of winners for a freshman sire i.e. the 22 set by his own father Captain Al in the 2004/2205 season. It is just a matter of time before he breaks that record.

Unfortunatley, One World was also involved in a controversial situation on Saturday as his best progeny to date, the twice Gr 3-winning Vaughan Marshall-trained One Stripe, has to be scratched from the Langerman due to an elevated TCO2 level.

He was the 3/10 favourite so the scratching once again angered many punters. It was not the first time a popular Pick 6 banker had been scratched die to TCO2 testing.

The Sporting Post wrote a report on the race day on Saturday and the punters reaction to the TCO2 testing.
