Drakenstein and Team Valor’s triple G1 winning mare Ebony Flyer celebrated a
winner in the UK yesterday when her 3yo daughter Ducal Crown scored second time out at Southwell.
The Andrew Balding trained progeny of the late Duke Of Marmalade was bred here to northern hemisphere time, and went off a weak 11/4 favourite under David Probert following a pleasing fourth on debut. She won by a hard fought neck.
Racing Post had the following comments about the run:
Dwelt start and ducked left, towards rear, nudged along, headway from 3f out, soon pressed leader, ridden and made sustained challenge inside final furlong, soon bumped, kept on to lead towards finish (opened 5/2).
The seventeen hands plus Justin Snaith trained Ebony Flyer won the Cape Fillies Guineas, Majorca Stakes, and SA Fillies Sprint (all with Bernard Fayd’Herbe).
The daughter of Dynasty produced G1 placed Cot Campbell locally as well as useful handicapper Captain Of Tortuga and recent listed Jamaica Handicap runner up Black Silver.
Now resident in the UK she has a Dark Angel two-year-old filly and Kingman yearling colt still to hit the track, so exciting times ahead. –tt
