Drakenstein Stud equalled their own South African record on Saturday when Future Pearl won the Gr 3 Tabgold Derby as he became their 20th individual stakes winner this season.
Drakenstein Stud had 20 individual stakes winners of 35 races last season, having set the record the previous season of 18 individual stakes winners of 25 races.
They have 20 individual stakes winners of 29 races this season, so just need one more individual stakes winner to break the record.
Where will that winner come from?
There first chance will come in in the Gr 3 Langerman on Saturday at Kenilworth and it will be with two promising horses, the Justin Snaith-trained Lancaster Bomber colt Eight On Eighteen and the Vaughan Marshall-trained All Out For Six.
Richard Fourie is aboard Eight On Eighteen and this colt should enjoy the step up in trip.
He is in fact beautifully bred being out of a Captain Al mare who is out of the celebrated champion broodmare Mystic Spring. That makes this mare a half-sister to the like of champion three-year-old male Rabiya, champion three-year-old filly Bela-Bela, as well as dual Gr 2 winner Secret Of Victoria and also stakes winners Rafiya, Spring Lilac and Touch The Sky.
However, Eight On Eighteen fittingly has draw eight out of eight, although that is obviouslye not a boost to his chance.
All Out For Six is out of a Trippi one-time winner over 1400m.
He has won his last two starts over 1400m and should make his presence felt.
However, both of these One Worlds have to beat the much vaunted Vaughan Marshall-trained One World colt One Stripe and the latter is drawn in pole.
One Stripe is also bred by Drakenstein, but has already won two Gr 3s.
